Pat Forde reporting there is no BOT meeting, our insiders on the pay side say there is. I trust our team. Fwiw.
Kiffin has built a playoff contender in OUR conference at OLE MISS. He can bring whoever he thinks is best.
I do not understand why Kiffen would leave a playoff team to come here. Maybe he just feels it's a better place to live? I get that the appeal of Kiffen is that he has matured over the years. I guess what I'm thinking is that if he just ditched it all to start over, it sort of rings all the same old alarm bells of when he left for USC. It would be an improvement for sure, as long as it lasted. But would a guy who has never stuck around stick around?
so are we looking for white smoke or black smoke after this board meeting? Kiffin has shown that he can coach. He has Ole Miss as a contender... ole freakin miss. Does he come with baggage? yes. If he does come here and is successful, will he stay for a while or do the squirrel thing and bolt in 2 or 3 years?
I don't think he leaves. He is building something special there at Ole Miss and will be treated like a god which strokes his ego. Ole miss is filthy rich in tail and Ole Miss will provide him cover. They will ante up his pay and buyout. Furthermore, there are plenty donors here who know of Lane's past and moral weaknesses. I believe Lane loves the attention knowing Ole Miss will pony up. I don't see Lane to UF happening. And I don't think many of our top decision makers are seeing it either.
Even if the firing comes early, there will be no resolution for months. So the real question is if Saban’s Thanksgiving dinner will be the best place for insider info? Now that he’s retired he may be out of the loop.
Maybe we keep the recruiting structure in place and bring in an NFL guy. I'm sure Napier has plenty of SoP's in place to help manage the recruiting side. Then, lure the Miami Dolphin HC like Bama did with Saban.
FWIW- I looked up the sec stats and while his offenses have been in the top quartile ( not #1), his defenses at Ole Miss have been in the middle of conference rankings.
