Florida being a big football school, should hire coaches that have continuous success when ever we hire a new coach. Lack of an exciting offense, defense, that run prevent defenses predominantly, should never be in the equation. Not vetting coaches through the eyes of a former successful coach, most times is a lark.
All we need is a great offensive coach who knows how to hire a great defensive coach and stay the hell out of the defensive calls...
Cancer is a terribly strong term and not appropriate here IMHO. I agree that his apparent calm demeanor is not working for this team and we need to move on but I believe BN was sincere in his attempt and is just in over his head, especially with the major disruptions to college football that are the portal and NIL, the effects of which were largely unknown when he got the job. His demeanor might be more appropriate for smaller schools where the players are more likely to be playing for love of the game and their school, and not just to live the high life while waiting to go pro at the NFL level (as opposed to the NIL level).
We need a lot more than that. We need a top-down commitment to football. And by the top I mean President and BOR. If the stadium was clean, I might be convinced otherwise. But when you have a full off-season to scrape up last seasons gum up and pressure wash and don’t, that is not on the coach. That is on an AD who doesn’t care, and an Admin who doesn’t hold him accountable.
My biggest disappointments are defense, offensive line, and coach Napiers stubbornness. What most called for was an offensive coordinator to get the offense going. I haven’t seen any difference in wr route running or play calling. I can call half the plays according to sets before they occur. Doesn’t look like he’s given the play calling over to Russ or if he has he’s telling him what to call or changing it himself. The defense is still bad. Too many third and longs given up. Again. Offensive line is not as good as last year. No way we should be taking a step back. We cannot run block. As to Watson. I’m not a coach but I would have given him an ultimatum. Lose weight or your playing days are over at UF. We will provide you with everything you need to succeed. It’s up to you at this time. You have all of the off season. He seems like a really good person. If this team doesn’t improve greatly, and I see no reason for it, I think he will negotiate a buy out and leave on his terms.
I don’t really think we were duped, we just gave him till the third year with all the problems he inherited. Some never supported him, some jumped off the wagon last year and the rest after the Miami game. We are still a young team in many areas and I for one did not expect to compete against the true contenders just yet but the product is still awful.
True but you must have a grasp of defense to run an effective offense. You can’t play a chess match without understanding of the other side. Great hc’s hire talented coaching to fill in their weaknesses. You first have to recognize your weaknesses.
Valid point , but that was a decade ago and he’s been able to win since then. He got great opportunities early in life, largely because of his father, and definitely burned out fast in the beginning. By all accounts seems to have improved a lot since then. Not sure he’s the best candidate but certainly in the conversation.
He doubled down on this stupid defensive scheme off Roberts. Bateman who wanted the DC position just wrecked his offense.
I don’t like him but he may be our best hire. Will Chad well be winning at a premier program five years from now? Who knows. A couple coaches always emerge and hitting on on is hard. If programs knew, they would pay him whatever he wanted.
Mizz and FSU last year is when I started giving him the side eye. Especially after FSU. Miami just confirmed my suspicions that he was out of his depth. Team just lacks basic fundamentals..... in all phases of the game.
Not me. Was just sent this. Since 2016 Gator head coaches hired by SS are 86-398 with 0 NC. Foley coaches are 390-38 with 18 NCs.
I’d assume so. You don’t think Bateman would have wanted the DC position after Toney left? Napier brings in a young coach to take over the role and Bateman bolts for a DC position.
