Desantis questioning signatures for the abortion amendment. 10s of thousands of signatures, it would seem there would be a few anomalies in any petition. “Abortion officially became part of the Florida ballot ahead of November earlier this year. But the initiative may come into some troubles before people can actually vote for it, with the DeSantis administration announcing it is examining thousands of petition signatures and looking for fraud.” Florida Gov. DeSantis requests verification of thousands of pro-abortion petition signatures alleging fraud https://www.wptv.com/news/political...rtion-amendment-petitions-for-potential-fraud
There's no bottom. Of course since it looks like it's going to pass based on polling they have to try to find someway to prevent that. Very cool, very small government, very will of the people.
I'll be the first to admit he's simply delaying the inevitable on purpose, posturing for the base. He knows it's going to go through, he just doesn't want to be seen as doing nothing to stop it. Even though this effort is futile. No different than what every other politician does... especially at the state level.
I’m voting for it, but I thought it was poling at around 56%… which means it wouldn’t pass. Edit… saw a latest poll… 55% for, 26% against, and 19% undecided. I guess that is favorable if just a quarter of the undecided vote yes.
Right - at those numbers it's a waste of time to investigate the ballot signatures. Presumably we collect signatures to determine whether or not it would be a waste of taxpayer time/money to go through all the hoops to put something on the ballot only for it to get 10% of the vote. Clearly this is going to be very close at worst, so what's the point in questioning the signatures now?
What’s really becoming interesting is the further rift between Trump and DeSantis. Trump has actually campaigned that he will vote “yes” to legalize marijuana, whereas DeSantis is hotly opposed to the Amendment. Trump has also said, without indicating how he’ll vote, that he doesn’t like the 6 abortion ban, going against another signature piece of DeSantism. The friction, which looked to be healed at the Pub Convention,is definitely broadening.
Before Covid, he was really good. I think he became more enthralled with being the face of the rebellious conservative rather than the governor of Florida.
I question whether a governor who literally hates half the people living in his state could possibly be any good.
I’m absolutely with you. My point was different — he was a different person before COVID, and his early governorship showed a guy who didn’t care about party lines; he acted for Florida. And then came Covid and he turned completely.
A strange symptom of long Covid? lol. I think it distilled him to pure presidential candidate. Weird thing was what gets you the Republican nomination isn’t popular in a general election. Trump is having problem shedding the unpopular parts.
I loved that he followed actual science during Covid. Saw schools in Europe didn’t have Covid spread different than the local environment and opened schools in Florida with no increase in covid. Then somewhere around 2021 he went bat shit crazy right.
