Kerwin is 59. Bring him in for 4 years at 5 mil per. Give Kade 2 mil per. If it works, great and set Kade up to take over. If it doesn't, we'll have all the buyouts paid off and can legitimately go head hunting.
There are candidates I personally would prefer (not that what I prefer matters), but Kerwin sure is preferable to some of the names being mentioned . Alex Golesh really, Lance Leipold great at Wisconsin, Whitewater that is, 18-21 at Kansas… might be great, might not. I watched Western Carolina vs N.C. State. Talent wise it was no contest, but Kerwin Bell was masterful on offense. We get Kiffin, Fisch, or some other top name it’s understandable to say no to Kerwin, but to pass him over for some of the so called top ten candidates is absurd in my opinion.
I agree. He has a history of success at schools that do not funnel a lot of money into Football. In other words, he is capable of making something out of nothing. That is a hell of lot more than Napier has shown us.
What Kerwin has going on up at WCU is simply outstanding. WCU went 1-8 in 2020. Kerwin took over in 2021 and went 4-7, then 6-5 in 2022 and 7-4 in 2023. WCU has not finished a season ranked (FCS) since 1984, until last year when WCU finished the season ranked 23. Also, WCU's QB was the Southern Conference offensive player of the year (as a sophomore) with a passing efficiency of 166, which was ranked 3rd in all of the FCS. Why Kerwin, why not?
I see your Lance Liepold and raise you Chris Klieman—continued success at NDSU, most national championships of any coach in their history. He beat both FBS opponents he was matched up against. With Kansas State won the Big 12, top 30 defenses and their recruiting has improved slightly. He'd be in my top 3 when they go hunting this fall.
the people on this board would be going ape shit if he came and went 4-7, 6-5, 7-4 and calling for his head.
Not sure how many are still around or if any are in jail but ...... I'll take Kerwin as Head Coach - Mayo Ricky Nattiel as WR coach - Archer Neal Anderson as RB coach - Graceville Lomas Brown and Jeff Zimmerman as OL coaches - Miami Springs and Orlando Mark McGriff as TE coach - Gainesville Brad Culpepper DL coach - Tallahassee Clifford Charlton as LB coach - Tallahassee Jarvis Williams as DB coach - Palatka Louis Oliver and Roger Sibbald as Co-DC - Belle Glade and Dunnellon Ray Criswell ST coach - Orange Park Most of these were there with Kerwin or either the year before or year after. Main thing is they all came out of Florida high schools.
I suppose some type of hit squad or professional sabotage team could help with the buyouts, and possibly be cheaper. Anything short of the staff getting whacked or doing something to get fired for cause, the buyouts will need to be addressed though. So, as I said, you’re going to need a lot more than a couple million to make those moves.
Easy now! I don't need the Feds showing up at my door again. Since Kerwin's base salary is only around $300k at WCU, I thought $2M (minus a small fee) might be enough to persuade him back to Gainesville. Nothing sinister here. Besides all of my favorite gator holes were buried years ago with new housing developments and the wood chipper is currently in the shop.
Nice list of 80's Gator greats. Unfortunately, Zimmerman passed away about six months ago. Maybe Crawford Ker can replace him as oline assistant and bring some of his Winghouse ladies to help with recruiting?
