Why is Napier's buyout $26 Million when Kiffen's is only $4 Million?

Stricklin can’t hire football coaches but he is not dumb. He knows that ADs at
major programs don’t survive two failed football hires (barring something unprecedented). He knew whoever followed Mullen would determine his future. So he made firing that person a difficult ta$k for those who would come calling for the coach’s job and his job.

One of them is the cost the employer needs to pay the employee to terminate the contract, the other is the cost the employee needs to pay the employer.

Best of luck, I hate to see how far the program has fallen.

Think about how much Armstrong and Sale are getting paid as well. It’s disgusting

Armstrong is paid handsomely and we had to hire another coach to coach HIM.

Perhaps I’m not very bright but I don’t follow the logic that somehow giving an unproven coach an exorbitant contract with an even more exorbitant buyout clause would somehow protect his job. If they were of a mind to they could have fired Stricklin the day after Napier signed the contract. As a matter of fact I think that such poor judgement and financial irresponsibility could constitute grounds for termination and in fact adversely effect the length of his tenure (which it may very well do).

    No. There’s a reason he’s not coaching.

He doesn’t look like someone who has played sports but not sure.
i never understood that hire at all. When Spurrier’s defense was struggling, he goes out and hired arguably the best defensive coach in the country. He didn’t search in the mid-majors and lower tier teams for his guy; he wanted the best that had experience in big time college football.
Money was then and is now no object - why not go get one of the best? These coaches, though nepotism or who knows why, may be speeding up their demise by either failing to fire a coach (Mullen/Grantham) or Napier (Armstrong, et al)
    Down right stupid.

Just load the contract up with incentives.

$4M base, +$1m for every win over .500. That's enough to make them the highest paid coach in the country at $13m if they do well and win a natty.

Conversely, buyout at 100% of remaining contract, but losing season drops to 50%, back to back losing seasons it goes to $0.

I should be a football coach. I'm sure I could fail at that.

Right now, I am only mildly rewarded for mediocrity in my field.

Good thing we don't have to worry about an established top 10 coach considering the UFAA's track record for only hiring "Hidden gem up-and-comers".

Who are the top 10 candidates in your opinion who deserve multi generational wealth the day they sign the contract?

There are currently only 3 active coaches with an NC. We would likely be very upset if we hired two of them (Dabo, Mack Brown).

We are currently giving guaranteed money as if bringing in a certain coach is a guarantee to success. It isn't. The vast majority of coaches fail.

Why are we incentivizing these coaches to FAIL? His only incentive is to do poorly get fired, not work, and enjoy more money than he can ever spend.

I would much rather have someone come in who is incentivized to win than to lose. We have seen how the current structure of these contracts has failed us over the past 4 hires.

Pay the best D2/3/HS coach 500k base and 200k/ win 1 million each playoff game appeared in etc. . Hopefully an energetic guy to coach special teams and handle in game management. No buyout. Use the saved money to have the highest paid coordinators and hire a GM to handle NIL/recruiting/transfer portal/ and use the rest to pay the players.

We all need to band together and become part of Billy’s army before it’s too late. We’d all get very lucrative severance packages.
