As therapeutic as it is to talk about getting a new HC, it's not going to happen in the near term. But, what is possible is having someone else call plays from now on. This was a discussion last year after the UK game that said big boosters were going to force CBN to relinquish play calling. CBN said he would evaluate the idea, and then (predictably) changed nothing. Saturday, it was rumored that he wasn't calling plays late in the game. Does anybody know 1) if that was true, and 2) whether there is any discussion about giving play calling duties to someone else from now on?
I'm for the guy calling the plays that called them when DJ was at the wheel. This team needs some excitement and movement on the field. Like Billy a lot, but brother, it's ok at FLORIDA if your O moves the sticks and puts points on the board.... That's the kind of process we like to see. On D, where are the leaders? 2 upperclassmen making non smart penalties?......... C'mon guys!!!!!!! Be better!!! I will ALWAYS cheer for this team! GO GATORS!!!!
Billy Napier calls the plays. That's the way he wants it and likes it. He's a stubborn idiot who has not brought in, nor developed, elite linemen on either side of the ball. He is reaping what he's sown and Scott Stricklin is the ultimate person responsible for the mess we're in and should be run out of town on the same bus as Billy Sun Belt Napier.
I don't really care who calls the plays, but with Mertz likely out they need to figure out some things that Lagway and crew can be comfortable executing.
Some think he’s stubborn but this isn’t the guy who kept third and Grantham for four years. He has made moves every year he’s been here and oc should’ve been a done deal. Maybe he did flip the headset up and let Calloway take his shot. Kudos if he did and Calloway calls plays the rest of the year. Calloway may suck too but it’s still something besides doing nothing. Good leaders keep changing till they get it right. I don’t have much faith because to me, we clearly don’t have the talent up front on either side. We can’t be good like that but we can damn sure do better with what we do have. What we can’t do is line up and get three yards running at a superior front seven. Do something that has a chance of success.
I believe Pepper Rogers at Georgia Tech let Spurrier call the plays one game and the rest is history.
His willingness to keep making changes is what made me a vocal supporter for waiting until year 3 to make any indictments about him as a success or failure but given what we saw Saturday his refusal to change offensive philosophy either by becoming less conservative and/or bringing in an offensive coordinator is a deal breaker. He tied himself to that horse and now he's getting dragged by it.
As much as BN is signaling the play calls into the QB, Callaway up in the booth is involved just as much. Sale probably more in the weekly game planning but not game day. The product we see is a team effort.
Calling plays and a feel for the game can change alot of things. They are aware now that they can only protect from our nonexistent pass rush and they won’t have that option in real games. It’s hard to scheme around a bad oline but they have to do better because that’s what we have. They were getting there with four and when they brought five or six , they came in free on the right side. Not much works against that but a running qb has a shot to make something happen.
His "moves" just seem to involve getting massive guaranteed paychecks to the largest amount of people he can. I guess we can add charitable to nice guy as good descriptors, too bad it's not his money being handed out so freely.

They could always have the opponents defensive coordinator call them in since they usually know what's coming anyway.
i somewhat agree on his willingness to make changes but had reservations on the changes - but mainly superficial ones. of the major staff changes made over the past two seasons, he still showed intense loyalty to friends- Patrick and Peagler were technically not fired but supposedly given time to find new gigs first. This took well into the nfl off season and was after most ncaa coaching staffs had been finalized, leaving less options for UF to hire from. I guess no big deal. But a potential detriment to Uf over loyalties to friends. last year, he terminates coach Chaos and Raymond. These are the only two coaches he has fired and they are coaches he had little ties to/ or long history with. Instead of terminating the SC coach, Hocke, he hired a replacement and reassigns Hocke to other roles. Again, Hocke is a long time staffer of Napier so instead of firing the guy responsible for poor SC, he is kept. Special teams was a major issue. We hire a new Speical teams analyst and keep Couch, the man in charge of last years same number debacle, constant missing of 11 players on the field, etc. Couch is another long time staffer of Billy. He doesn’t get fired. He then gives Calloway co-OC duties so now supposedly we have 3 OC. The worst performing unit-both on field and in recruiting - Sale, the coach, is retained. In addition, one OL coach leaves and he has the opportunity to move on from his not working two OL system but…goes right back to it. Something no other team in the country is doing. the only major guys Napier has fired are guys he wasn’t friends with. Others are allowed a more graceful exit or allowed to stay around with demotions I guess. Does it really matter? I don’t know. But often times in organizations when people know who stinks at their jobs and they are just reassigned - people notice. Do players who complained about Hocke wonder why he still has any job at all and figure it is no big deal to do a poor job as you will still get paid? I don’t know. I was pretty on board with all of the new coaching hires, especially Roberts. My only concern is - how will the dynamic between Armstrong and Roberts work and will it work? Having too many chefs in the kitchen can cause confusion. Did that impact our defensive performance Saturday? Biggest gripe was OC. I had zero belief that Calloway was going to call plays or have any major impact with adding the co-OC title. Napiers system/scheme and philosophy on offense is just average and sub optimal. He still says he is the best option for UF when it comes to calling plays and it is his favorite thing about coaching. Would a new OC have changed the outcome this past weekend? Maybe not. But I would have rather have seen an innovative passing game (including throwing beyond the first down marker on 3rd downs) moving up and down the field and lose a shoot out vs getting drubbed with an antiquated offense that has little chance to succeed and perform at a high level. An innovative offense with a chance to keep making improvements as the year goes on. That dream is dead. lol
I couldn’t tell on TV so honest question. were our players looking at video on the tablets they can use this year and getting coached up when they weren’t on the field? Or were our coaches sitting on the bench minding their own business like Charlie Weiss did?
Wasn't there a run down last year where the play calling is all collaborative? That one guy gets the 3rd down and + and another gets the short plays, it sounded convoluted and stupid. Nobody on this staff should be running an offense.
