Did LJ get and snaps ? I gotta be honest I didn't watch the 4th quarter, listened on radio while doing errands. DJ looked scared to death that first series, but it sounded like he got more comfortable at the game moved on.
DJ operated a nice scoring drive.... and a plus is it was vs miami 1st team defense. He also threw a few nice passes too.
Just another opinion among many, but IMO, it was a shame UF did not offer Kerwin the job after Meyer. He has been and continues to be a successful coach. Yes, at another level, but considering the journey post Urban, to date, it couldn't have been much worse. Besides, Kerwin was one of ours, and yes I know Chump went to Gainesville in H.S., but for me, his playing career at UGA made him more of a dog, than a Gator.
I noticed he couldn't even open it, could that explain the teams lack of S & C? Seriously, he could not open it.
We didn't look slow, we were slow. Every where. How many times did their DE run around our guard like he was standing still? Or how many times I swear our defense was trying so hard to chase down Cam, that they were gasping for air? Can anyone on defense run a sub 5.0 40? Then Asa Turner gets hurt. I hate to say it but the only unit that improved was Special Teams. They went 1 for 1 on FG attempts, downed a punt inside the Miami 5, and covered the remaining kicks pretty well.
Actually Muschamp stepped back to an off-field analyst role this year so he could go watch his son play for Vandy Glenn Schumann and Travarius Robinson are co-DCs this year. Most insiders believe Schumann will be a HC somewhere next year.
The issue is that if Kiffin makes the playoffs, it will likely be late December at best before he could take the job. That means we miss out on early signing day and potentially have players/recruits being poached left and right due to the uncertainty. What if Kiffin pinky promises and then uses us to get a raise from Ole Miss? In today’s environment, it would be a huge risk to wait on Kiffin. That leaves us with up-and-comers from lower schools or P5 coaches from non-playoff schools.
The recruits are a big concern. An even just as big of a concern is the current team looking at the Portal to exit UF.
Bigger issue-Wilson and Lagway walk with Billy staying. Dont forget portal windows. Kids like Wilson and Lagway benefit us much more at age 21 and 20 than guys just graduating.
Usually Post press conferences get same coach speak after a loss from BN, "we need to coach better and play better" well duh. When exactly will that happen? Then you get basically soft ball questions. You would think after 6 straight losses, after an abysmal record against our hated rivals, a pitiful home loss record, and losing a home opener for the first time in many years you would get more pointed questions. It makes me wonder do they lose their privilege if their questions are too tough on the coach? How bout, "Why was the team totally dominated on both sides of the ball to the point it wasn't even competitive? Last year time and time again you said coaches have to coach better and the team needed to play better when is that going to happen? Who was calling plays for Lagway? The offense was 1 for 9 on third down conversions how much of that was play calling? Why was the front 7 on defense unable to get pressure on Miami's qb all game long? It looked as if he was toying with the defense. This is your third year, why was this performance at home worse than the opening games for the past two years? Shouldn't improvement be seen? You have a losing record, your record at home is bad, your record verses our rivals is very bad, how do you justify remaining coach here at UF? Let me sit in on those conferences. I may be one and done but I believe these are legit questions.
We had a wasted off-season, and we have a current lost season. The question of if we need to punt this guy into the stands has been answered. It’s just a question of when, how, and with whom to replace him. I say humble ourselves to get Kiffin. Just pay the price, and do it. Or we can be right back here in three years wondering why the wonderkind who had a great season as the coach at Montana St. didn’t work out.
He will probably say things are fixable, team working on better execution, this team is resilient and he's confident that this team will rebound. He will say again he believes in this team and no one is making excuses. Be prepared for more softball questions and lots of coach speak. Only when it appears UF is headed once again for a losing season will they be bold enough to ask tough questions.
Do you care what he “says” at this point? Russia claims victory over much-smaller Ukraine is imminent, like any day now. How much should I listen 2.5 years into this war?
