It's a shame what florida has become since Meyer melted down but even worse since Mullen's 3rd year here. Fsu was spiraling in their own streak of losing seasons and Miami was middling. We had the opportunity to keep them down and continue returning to better days and yet now we are in a death spiral. The portal might make for quicker turn arounds but they also make for an even greater collapse when a coach is fired as the exodus will likely be greater than the incoming transfers without a huge name splash hire. Add to that a rising ole miss, the addition of Texas and Oklahoma and now a Miami uptick and the vultures are circling over the remnants of a Florida program on its last breath. There are so many dynamics working against this program right now.
But what's the hold up? You really think that he can get players to Ole Miss that he couldn't get in Gainesville if he came here? Do you really believe that?
Maybe he has illusions of grandeur? The school in not the problem in Gainesville... it's the coaches.
I’m just saying he’s already getting them at Ole Miss. They have a better roster than Florida already. So outside of the much better HS recruiting base in Florida (that he granted would have to fight against Miami, FSU and everyone else that comes into FL to recruit) what would be the draw unless UF throws an obscene amount of cash at him (which doesn’t seem to be how they operate)?
Georgia is a really pretty state in many spots...Florida is a great place...what is the biggest attraction in Mississippi? Even Louisiana and Arkansas think Mississippi is a nasty state. He gets $9M a year and I bet he leaves that state as much as he can as soon as the season ends.
If push comes to shove, UF have deeper pockets than Ole Miss. They are not going to win a dick measuring contest with Florida. It really comes down to the administration being willing to sign him to a record deal. And that's about the only thing stopping it from happening. Kiffin would leave Ole Miss in a heartbeat for $12 to $13 mill a year. It may not even take that much. The INSANE part is that we owe Billy Napier a $25 million buy out. That's just dumb, but..... if a school does a buyout like that, they don't care about money.
Urban won a title and had many consecutive great seasons. There is no evidence at all Meyer would be a weak CFB coach. Everything in his history says he’d get us elite, quickly.
In the hypothetical world where Florida does pony up the $$ for the buyout who gets to hire the new HC? Didn’t the current AD hire McElwain, Mullen and Napier? Surely he wouldn’t get a 4th stab at this, right?
Every time I see Meyer reminisce about Florida, he gets a big smile on his face. I bet he'd come back at the right price... that is if Kiffin doesn't work out.
It's a move up, IMHO. I think he knows that too. And with the transfer Portal and the NIL, he can change the roster in literally one off season.
If I were Kiffin, I would make sure to tell his assistant coaches not to sign a long term contract with Ole Miss... He needs them to come with him, and we do NOT need to pat a buyout for them to leave their contract.
Made nc state squirm Thursday. After the buyout he might be all we can afford. His offense would appeal to DJ
UF is still paying Mullen for this. Lol. They haven’t gotten anything right with football in a long time.
True, but a lot depends on who the new president will be and what their priorities are with regards to athletics.
