I understand things aren't looking great at the moment. The reality is, and everyone knew it, Ukraine had no chance in a long term war. The only hope was that they and the santions could do enough damage to Russia that Putin would be shown the view from a 3rd story balcony.

We have thus far avoided WWIII over this. As is the norm, no one gets any credit for avoiding something that didn't happen. Y2K, just a hoax, not a massive endeavor to fix code. Covid response, taking away freedoms, not preventing a breakdown of our healthcare system. etc. etc.

I give the decision makers credit for us not being in a wider war at this point. For the most part our line had been, you can use our weapons to defend yourself, but not to attack Russia directly. We have just recently relented and said they could be used on Russian military targets.

The burning cinder was a bit of hyperbole. But as to no one over there wanting nuclear war, if there is anything Trump and the MAGA movement has taught me is don't underestimate how stupid someone can be and don't assume those in power will be rational.

 

I understand it’s hard to get the credit for preventing something that didn’t happen, but you’re also overly crediting for something that is pure speculation of happening in the first place.

Afghanistan also had no chance in a long-term war with the USSR. Between the difficult terrain and their own stubbornness (and with a little help from the U.S. plus Russia's collapsing economy), they won. Never say never in war. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

 

Pokrovsk is no longer important as a logistics hub to Ukraine. Once the Russians control the majority of the roads and railways leading into the city, the city no longer has value from a logistical perspective. It may eventually be important to Russia as a logistical hub, but not Ukraine, unless they push the Russians back far enough to control the roads and railways leading into and out of the city.

Ukraine lit up a pair of Russian power (electricity) plants with drones, starting fires. An oil refinery caught fire as a result of the electrical interruptions.

Ukraine is pushing its way west in Kursk, advancing on the city of Glushkovo. They did manage to capture seven Russian tanks, a few of which just came off the assembly line. It seems like it would be better to push east, to try to get behind the Russians in Ukraine, but that may be too well-defended or have natural obstacles. Ukraine has captured a fairly large amount of land in Russia.

Russia's main response is to bomb the crap out of Sudzha (their own city).

Slight difference between attacks aimed at military targets & military infrastructure and indiscriminate attacks against a civilian population, don't you think, Lee Harvey? Or has the barbarian mind not evolved to a level that can distinguish the difference? You're likely a conscript propagandist, and a living metaphor for blind ignorance. There is a reason that the Kursk population is much more tolerant of Ukraine's military presence on their soil than the eastern Ukraine's population is of the Russian barbarians on their soil.
