Yep. Big time cred with me for keeping the gumps from winning a couple more nat champs. NTM all the wins over the holes. Now if they could just beat the dumb mutts.

I thought this thread was going to be about strength of schedule and Dabo whining . FYI; I’m the first in 4 generations on dad’s side that didn’t go to Clemson.

Yes, there is that. I think it was Beamers’s work ethic and high energy level that Drew Spurrier to him. I think it’s safe to say he hasn’t panned out as a top notch coach…yet.

I always thought Spurrier took shots at Clemson more than dabo. The whole real death valley being in baton rouge stuff. I felt like he was just pumping up the usce fan base and poking fun at his in state rival. He did the same with UGA while at usce, but I don't remember specific shots at Richt. While at UF he def didn't mix words about Bowden and Fulmer.

Can you name some specific players that would have gone to UF but went to clemson because of Dabo?
I asked another poster this once (NOT YOU)- and he replied "Spiller and Bowman."
I thought that was one of the dumber responses ever given.
We somehow managed 2 NCs during Spiller's 4 years of Clemson- so I don't think losing Spiller hurt us.
And Bowman- LOL at the stupidity!!! The guy can't even crack the UCF 3rd string and we're mad at Dabo for taking him!!!

But maybe you know of other players- I can't think of any but I don't follow recruiting that closely.
Again- I only want players that we know would have gone to UF instead of Clemson.
Not Florida HS players who went to Clemson.
    Thanks!

I'm ok with Dabo. Always have been. But, Spurrier was a Muschamp fan, too.

I've noticed a lot of people around Muschamp think a lot of him.
Muschamp is a pretty amazing guy- if you've ever read his backstory.
He probably is high character and not a prima donna sleaze bag like some others.
It doesn't make him a great head coach. No one is saying that.

My son played football at Pelham High School and that's where Dabo played high school ball. So a few years back, I think it was 2021, the school retired his jersey and he came to give a pre-game speech on the field. It was pretty good, recorded it. He's a motivator for sure.

Can't really answer with specifics, but his roster was always loaded with FL players. Same with Smart at UGA. Those 2 have combined for like 5 nattys that were won primarily with FL talent.

Not blaming them, but when homegrown talent escapes the home school, while we ought to start with blaming ourselves, we don't need to praise the ppl who poached our backyard, and certainly don't do ourselves any favors by singing their praises.

(That said, being petty and antagonistic towards them, doesn't help matters either. Perhaps a subtle tip of the hat suffices, without gushing...or whining).

Too much Dabo luv on the board Rick? LOL, I wasn't loving him when he was pillaging 5 star Fla. talent either, but for a competitor, he is "palatable".

Beamer's seat may be getting a bit warm, but I still like S Carolina, I enjoyed SOS tenure there, that 3 year, 11,11 and 11 win total run was amazing.

live here in SC and coach track/ cross-country at a private school.
Some of my athletes were invited to a February 2010 lunch that honored the top fall sports athletes in the state.
So my kids were honored along with the top HS football players- and I got to go.

This year Dabo was the speaker- he had just got the Clemson job. Before that I told my Clemson friend he was a bad hire- he would never make it.
At this point Dabo was the latest in a long line of Clemson coaches who seemed middling and mediocre.

Dabo blew everyone away. His back story, his motivation, his values, his ability.
    I couldn't believe it.
I actually started an email to that same Clemson friend with the tag line "Too good to be true?"
    He was that amazing.

After that the rest of the CFB world discovered Dabo- and he brought Clemson from mediocre to 2X NC within about 8 years.
With many hiccups along the way.

I would have Chump as my defensive coordinator any day of the week.
    Head coach, not so much.

Dabo is a classic example of giving a coach enough time to build a program his way - the results speak for themselves. And he also wasn’t faced with NIL and the portal when he took the wheel at Clemson. People getting impatient with Napier before his 3rd season even kicks off here are either downright stupid or they’re trolls hoping we’re stupid enough to run him off. Really hoping our administration isn’t listening to the contingent of entitled ignorant fans demanding a change if he doesn’t light it up this season.

I was so sick of Saban / Bamers, I was pulling for Dabo big time in those matchups. Glad Dabo dealt some pain and humble pie to the Bamers.

Yeah me too brother. I just wish the more unrealistic of us would STFU long enough to allow Napier the opportunity to do his job without the constant bitching and threatening. It’s 100% self-destructive

Agree, nowadays the coaches, (well the assistants anyway) the players and the recruits are checking out what social media is saying about teams.
It can't be anything but negative when H.S. recruits are reading boards raging about a head coach and a program, especially when it is the fan base of
the team being considered. I suspect each year social media has more and more of an impact and influence on recruits decision making process.

I'm not saying it's huge, but it does factor, IMO.
