Anyone who thinks this is bad never watched a game via a 27 inch flat screen courtesy of Jefferson Pilot. Pretty sure the pre-color games were more clear.

Combs isnt as bad as a lot of them and it was part of a Petty tribute album. A lot of good stuff on that album fwiw.

 

Combs has a decade of CMA, Billboard etc awards on his shelf. He isn't some autotuned wannabe like many out there.

I'm lukewarm on a lot of country, but love the Stapleton, Zach Bryan type stuff. But Combs is alright and does Petty justice with this song.

 

I think he just prefers the original more, and I can't blame him.

 

Brad Paisley is "new" country to me. So, you know, take that for what it's worth.

 

It’s definitely better to me than the ones in the OP, but not nearly as good as the CBS version.

Of course. No Petty cover is as good as Petty, but when stars like Combs do this it brings a new audience to Tom's art.

 

The interesting thing is so many of the country star's grew up on Tom's music and name check him often in their work. Obviously he was quite inspirational to many of them.
