I have only watched highlights of Klavzar, which we all know can be misleading, but, on a positive note, he reminds me of Teddy Dupay with his shot making and ability to create his own shot. However, don’t get overly excited. He is not as athletic or quick as Teddy, doesn’t have Teddy’s range on his shots, doesn’t get his shots off as fast as Teddy and is not as quick on his crossover moves as Teddy. That doesn’t mean that Klavzar can’t be a good player for the Gators. We will see. On a side note, I attended the Cape Coral Mariner game against Compton Dominguez in Fort Myers many years ago at which Teddy played the single best game I have ever seen by a high school basketball player. Compton was led by Tyson Chandler and Tayshaun Prince in a game they pulled out in the last minute. Teddy scored 56 points, including 14 threes, to nearly pull off what would have been a humongous upset for the Mariners.

Dupay was unreal in HS...lead the nation in scoring at 41.5PPG.

I was a 3rd team All County PG, and never sniffed 41 in a game. Hard to process that caliber of scoring, especially at 5-10.

    Just pulled this up:

Teddy Dupay, who averaged 41.5ppg as a high school senior, once scored 29 points in the final 5 minutes of a game, scored 50 at half-time in another, connected on 13 3-pointers and scored 72 in 3 quarters of another game.

I once scored 15 points in the first two minutes of an intramural game. 3 for 3 from 3 and 3 for 3 from two just inside the arc playing against a team playing a bad zone.

I was the coach of the team and when the opposing called time out I said "Let's get in their head. I am subbing out. They will try to guard me and I will be on the sidelines."

    LOL.

    I never subbed back in.

Frankly, I don't see a ton of similarity in their games. Dupay was just stone cold marksman from anywhere. Off the bounce, ball screen, catch and shoot, transition. He was taking 30+ foot shots before Curry!

From what I've seen of Klavzar, but the best comparison I've heard (maybe here?) was his Dragic with a stepback. He is not afraid to get downhill and score or get fouled. He also creates most of his perimeter shots, but doesn't have outrageous range. Will set up his teammates, but definitely looks to score first. That stepback is lethal, though.

Teddy got downhill a lot and scored or passed the ball off of it. My point was that they are similar in what they can do, but Teddy did everything better.

My kid once pointed out that if Dupay had an off night and only got 20, he had to get 63 the next game to keep his average up.

I had once had 32 in a HS game in Florida, against a large school in the highest classification. That required taking a lot of shots. Hard to imagine averaging 41.5.

Did you know that Teddy's teammate on those Mariner teams was Earnest Graham.

Dupay was more of a stone shooter at the college level. Klavzar seems to me to be a more score focused J Williams, just in terms of body movement styles. Klavzar has that quick twitch movement where Dupay was more of a glider

He was a baller. Really hurt the USA 3x3 Olympic squad with him out. IIRC he was the highest rated 3x3 player internationally.

Dupay made the pass to Skinny in the Butler game. He wasn't just a shooter.

I am not knocking Klavzar, but Teddy's ability to create his own shot, primarily via a lightning quick crossover dribble, was way beyond what Klavzar can currently do. In the game that I saw Teddy play against Compton, he was being face-guarded throughout the game. He shook himself free for 56 points, including 14 3's from deep, deep, deep.

I am attaching a link to a story about the history of the City of Palms basketball tournament in Fort Myers. There are several Gators mentioned in the article. It’s a great read. One correction from my prior posts: Dupay scored 56 points against a nationally ranked team from Cincinnati. I was at that game. He followed it up with a 49 point game against Compton Dominguez. Kenny Boynton had a 61 point game there and Nick Calathes had a 50 point game there.
