With all the safety gear on a superyacht, how do that many people die? Was the storm used for cover or was this really a coincidence that both of them are dead within 48 hours of each other? Don't know about the separate death of the runner but with respect to the yacht, there have been reports about a strong storm, to include a waterspout.

I knew about the sinking earlier. While the sinking is odd, it's likely explainable (second tallest mast in the world with a hydraulic keel that was up (ship was at anchor.) The ship was reported as knocked down a d with reduced righting action, down flooding could have been massive. Lightning could have blown a hole through.... People are pretty good at creating tornados / waterspouts to off their opponents nowadays, I guess.

In case anyone cares, there's still no real answers, but everything seems to point to the Bayesian being at anchor in 20m when winds picked up to 85+kts very quickly. Some CCTV from shore shows her healing to over 50* in about a minute, and witneses saying it was a full knockdown (90*). It seems that she may have been anchored stern and bow, the bow anchor dragged and they were pulled into 50M of water while on her side - massive downflooding accuring the whole way. Upright to seafloor in as short as 2-3 minutes. Horrifying. A dutch yacht was seen motoring into the wind - so there was some ability to know that more than an evening shower was coming...
I think it was 2am, but point taken. Any non-crew still awake were probably non-sober. A ship like that, the staterooms are like hotel suites. Imagine your hotel room going dark and tilting to >45* in a minute. If you don't knock yourself out or get knocked out by falling debris - good luck navigating your druck-ass out of the room, onto deck, and into a blinding storm.
My cousin's husband died in a similar accident off Cedar Key back in the 80s when a waterspout sank their fishing boat, there were 4 in the water for 4 days when the coastguard finally picked them up. My cousin's husband died on the 3rd night. My cousin won a $1m lawsuit because they were reported missing and it was 2 days before the coastguard started the search. I can't imagine a worse way to die.
massive failure by the captain and crew. should be criminal charges if true that the keel was up and they were anchored stern and bow. watch crew should have also seen weather coming and reacted if the storms weren't freak storms that popped up in 10 minutes. Read elsewhere that the IAS showed the yacht moving at the time it went down.
@exiledgator this video appears to show it sinking straight down and not tilting and then sinking. the light at the top of the mast and the lights along the waterline are visible with the mast light still showing as the waterline lights disappear. even with hatches open, the yachts bilge pumps should have easily handled any raiwater blowing in. doesnt make sense without some failure below the waterline. what do you see? The junkies on the sailinganarchy forums dug into this footage a couple of days ago: Divers have unofficially confirmed that the keel was retracted / up. So the ships righting arm would have been greatly reduced or eliminated leaving the ship relying only on its form stability: Meaning - with the keel fully down, once the mast leaned over, the force of the wind on the ship would be reduced, and the force of the keel's righting movement would have kicked in. With the swing keep in the "up" position, that righting motion would be greatly reduced and only the ships hull shape would be keeping it upright - once that force was eliminated due to sufficient heel - over she goes and more down flooding occurs. Lots we still don't know. What kind of hatches / doors were open? Was the tender garage left open? That would certainly allow for some serious down flooding quickly. An example of a tender garage: Lawsuits definitely coming. The boat builder already throwing the crew under the bus.
Literally on any ship offshore. All the commercial guys I know do it on overnight trips. Too much can go wrong too quick offshore.
