She is half black, and has never shied away from this fact. She is also half Indian. She has never denied this side of heritage either. So, what's the issue? Is she now allowed to be half and half? Do animals like golden-doodles need to choose a breed? Or, can they be half one and half the other? This is a really silly argument. Harris was black enough to attend Howard and pledge AKA, even without denying her half Indian heritage. She's still half black and half Indian, and isn't saying anything otherwise now that she's running for POTUS.
I agree she is 1/2 Indian, but 1/2 black depends on her father. I've seen that he has Irish descent in his background. That would make her part white too. Back to my point, she became black over Indian to pander for votes.
I'm black and I am sure she is black. She went to a HBCU and pledged AKA, and that is the epitome of black bourgeoise. My wife, SIL, and MIL are all AKA's (and take it very seriously). They also know people who went to college with her. Trust me, all these ladies would not be fans of Kamala Harris if they felt she had in any way disavowed her black heritage, and they are much better authorities on this issue than Republican white males who just need some reason to denigrate her (as if DEI and "ho" are not enough).
Her father is from Jamaica. And like most persons from the Caribbean, they are likely mutts/mulatto with a mixture of African and European blood. Based on image, Mr. Harris certainly passes as black. And Kamala has never denied she considers herself half black, and again, decades ago, went to Howard U., a HBA, and pledged a black Sorority. She isn't pandering for votes by claiming to be half black. She is being herself, and who she has always claimed to be. Here's a pic of Kamala and her father when she was young. Based on look alone, what race would you say he is? Irish? HA!
You just know if she was claiming to be half indian and half white, these same people would be posting this photo repeatedly saying "Does her dad look white???????"
She looks Indian to me. Your bolded is inaccurate. She has stopped using references to her Indian heritage of which she is 1/2, not her black heritage. Why claim to be black? It's that she changed from emphasizing Indian American to Black American to pander for votes on the national level, see post #83. She apparently identifies with her heritage based on her political motivations. In northern California, she was an Indian American. I have Cherokee Indian in me, but that doesn't make me an American Indian. I'm predominately white as my heritage traces back to western Europe. I don't advertise myself as white. I am an American.
Rivergator posted a far more recent photo than this while at Stanford earlier in this thread. Check it out.
You're just making stuff up. Why? This is from Harris's website: Throughout her life, she’s broken barriers, and she’s now the first woman, first Black American, and first South Asian American to serve as vice president. Meet Vice President Kamala Harris - Kamala Harris for President: Official Campaign Website You are part of a racial majority (i.e. no need to emphasize it) and not likely in any position to advertise your race.
Obama broke these barriers in 2008. I disagree with the use of race. I can understand being a woman over black or Indian. It's divisive to drag race into the equation. On the campaign trail, it's pandering for votes. I feel like a broken record. Obviously, we are never going to agree.
It's hilarious that the number of black presidents we've had is 1, and the number of female and or Indian heritage presidents is zero, and we got a guy talking about it like Harris has unfair advantage...
Give it up. It's already been mentioned by @gatorshady a poster much more qualified to comment on the issue than myself ans he has no problem with Harris's black identity and by the way muliethnic/multiracial person can identify as a member of both of her races, she attended an HBCU and was a member of a black sorority. When she first ran for elective office in 2002 (San Francisco DA) she self-identified as black. If you are an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation or are eligible to become a member you can claim to be an American Indian. If Harris was born 70 years ago in a Southern state with Jim Crow laws she almost certainly would have been considered black. The fact that her father has an ancestor who was a white slave owner is irrelevant. In the US a majority of biracial persons identify as black even though their black parent probably had a least one white person in his/her lineage.
If Harris is a beneficiary of DEI, Donald Trump is a beneficiary of affirmative action for former television reality stars and real estate developers with multiple bankruptcies who hold themselves out as business geniuses. He was clearly the least qualified person to run for and win election to the presidency in the history of the Republic.
Kamala Harris Nikki Haley Bobby Jindal You figure it out. We need the Michael Jackson song right about now. Michael Jackson - Black Or White (Official Video - Shortened Version) (youtube.com) I'm done.
So you've listed three American politicians two of whom are the children of immigrants from India and one is biracial the child of one parent who is an immigrant from India and one parent of who is a black Jamaican. That being said what's you're point? The two who parents from India identify as Indian American and the latter identifies primarily although not entirely as black. She also proudly acknowledges her South Asian heritage. By the way in the US biracial people with one black parent usually identify as black, the actress Tracee Ellis Ross coming to mind. She is daughter of Diana Ross, a black singer and Robert Ellis Siberstein, a Jewish American music executive. She considers herself black. As far as Micheal Jackson is concerned and I haven't watched the video he's a black American who had had plastic surgery and has used skin treatments to appear white. Just my opinion he probably had serious psychological problems given the extent of his surgery which bordered on mutilation with the assistance of unethical plastic surgeons.
Wow! You are 100% wrong, my friend. You obviously haven’t been around many black people. She looks very similar to my mother, 2 of my aunts, and several of my cousins. And my mother also has numerous darker skin brothers and sisters (same parents) because of increased genetic diversity in Africa as well as the rampant sexual abuse of female slaves here in America. But it’s obvious you don’t know much about black people. Kamala actually looks like the stereotypical AKA (an unfortunate and outdated stereotype, but still true). I think she only looks Indian to you because you’re a conservative white man trying to win an argument.
Establishing the explanations for Trump's upcoming loss. It can't be that they are supporting a morally bankrupt criminal, rather it's "manipulation" of the victorious candidate's race.
