I just happened to come across in on my feed, really glad I came across this and could share. I bet our team soaked this in and will apply being a brotherhood! I personally liked the "teammates telling their kids and grandkids about being that guys teammate"!!
Read it earlier. Sounds like a moving experience that resonated with the team. Loved Spikes reaction.
CBN has already talked about the improved leadership at the player level going into fall practice, Billy D just did his part to galvanize it. Gator made! I feel like this brotherhood of players are on the same page and we’re gonna beat some folks when we put hands on them. Sorry, I just can’t help my enthusiasm this season. Let’s F’N GO GATORS!
Couldn't agree more, it'll be nice to watch the CBN "doubters" (to put it nicely) eat a lot of crow. Steven Harris says Chatman has transformed the DL as well and he's over the moon over what he's seeing!
It’s really hard to temper expectations for the season. Then I look at the schedule. 8-9 wins this season would be incredible given what faces this team.
The fire and wisdom in his talk is refreshing and more than a typical pep talk when delivered by Billy D. We were lucky up here to get him scheduled in early ‘07 to talk to the Panhandle Gator Club. It was scheduled long before the first title win and was a huge event for us. Bad weather in Hogtown caused his flight up to be late, so anticipation rose as we waited and did stuff we usually do after the guest talks like door prizes and the auction and other stuff to kill time. When he finally walked in the door he went straight to the restroom with only a cursory wave to the crowd, albeit to a rousing standing ovation. When he came out a couple minutes later to talk he started with, “Wow, that’s the first standing ovation I’ve ever gotten for going to the bathroom!”. Then he gave an excellent talk about the team and that historic season. Good stuff, then and now.
What an awesome experience that must have been! Billy D is an amazing human being and we’re so lucky to have him as a part of Gator Nation!
Really proud that our 2 legends in basketball and football don't have anything near the character flaws of the ole Tom Osbornes, Bowdens, Caliparis etc. People claim Gator fans act righteous at times and in the case of these two, we have that right.
We need a new one to freshen the place up. All our championships will soon be before these kids were born. Damn time flies but it was pretty long ago. Another Meyer would be fine for a quick reboot but he didn’t last long and a decade run would be so much better. SOS days were so much better.
Those two are rare as can be. I'd take any consistent winner with no baggage even if a lower ceiling. Believe we have the potential with the two we have now but results don't support that belief just yet. The character is certainly there for both though. If Napier pulls it together on the field and Golden continues what he has started we may be on our way to being even more insufferable elitist fans.
I’m in wait and see mode. There is definitely potential in both. I don’t think k our roster supports national championship hopes but we should see improvement. Beating two or three ranked teams would certainly be an improvement but still not a very good record. Beating three ranked teams usually fetches a good record and semi happy fans but maybe not with this schedule.
