No policemen were beaten nor did anyone defecate on the House grounds in 2000. The opponents went to court and abided by the judgment of the SCOTUS full of Reagan and Bush appointees.
7 swing states stopped voting on election day in our country. Philly kicked out all Republican watchers and covered up the windows while counting. You people could not be bigger hypocrites.
I don’t see it happening unfortunately. It’s Cuba all over again. The military is corrupt. They will not support the people. Tragic really. Venezuela was the richest country in the region well into the 80s. People from other countries used to migrate to Venezuela for opportunities. Now Venezuelans are so desperate they walk to neighboring countries.
We can elect a virtual king with a minority of the popular vote too , that is democracy I’m told. We should applaud their efforts to become more like us.
Most of the Venezuelans in Westonzuela came with the first wave back in the late 90s, early 2000s. Mostly wealthy, educated folks with the means to leave and start over.
That's not a one sided issue. It's our society as a whole. A lot of common decency is gone on both sides. Go watch the debate between Kennedy and Nixon or Reagan and Mondale. Compare it to today, it's astounding.
Brother, when Kennedy and Nixon debated, Jim Crow was still in effect. UF didn't integrate its undergrad until two years LATER. There might have been more "civility" in politics. But "common decency"? Nah.
Yep, "Westonzuela" as parts of the city are referred to. Venezuelans have been coming to Weston for years, most with financial resources and business acumen. Due to the Maduro experience I suppose, they along with a large Columbian presence have slowly turned the city less liberal.
You could say the same for Dems, but it would be bullshit. Yes, the Florida results were challenged in 2000, but Al Gore let it go. One thing that is absolutely certain about that 2000 election in Florida is that more people tried to vote for Al Gore than tried to vote for George Bush. When 3000 Jewish people in Palm Beach County vote for an anti-semite instead of for Al Gore, you know that that was the wrong result. The butterfly ballot down there ended up electing George Bush. They should’ve corrected the butterfly ballot and had a revote wherever it was used.
No one is buying the bothsidesism. There has never been as despicable character in American politics as Trump and his cult devotees are close behind.
No it isn't. Trying to admonish nearly half of the country is not an option. Both sides are doing it and that's bullshit. Trying to step on your own countrymen to "win" is what leads to its demise. Trump is a symbol, the guy knows how to sell. Maybe instead of bashing his supporters and actually listening or God forbid giving them something to vote for would end the bullshit. If Trump is so damn terrible, why is this race so close? It's because the Dems are just as bad.
Have to disagree with you there. Those politicians were far, far better than the ones we have today. They actually passed legislation that worked for folks, like SS, Medicare, and civil rights. Even Nixon was far better than anyone we have today,. especially on foreign policy. Again, the greatest generation and their presidents were a huge instrument of change on humankind. Boomers gave us Clinton, Bush and Trump, yikes... What a great legacy...
That's one hell of a deflection. It took years of fighting for civil rights and Kennedy's assassination for it to become a possibility. It took civil rights protesters being jailed, beaten, tortured, and murdered. And there were numerous politicians who fought tooth and nail to keep segregation in place. They defended the Klan and the White Citizens Council. It turns out that "common decency" wasn't too common. And Nixon? Don't get me started. You're not about to tell me about "common decency" and "civility" from the man behind Watergate. Maybe his common decency was on display when he and Ronnie Reagan were using racial slurs over the phone to describe Black people. National Archives releases Reagan’s racist call with then-President Nixon, ex-Nixon library director says Let's not whitewash or revise history. No doubt that LBJ and Nixon passed more legislation. It was a different time and a different Congress. It sucks that Congress is so broken today. But the idea that there was more "common decency" back then is a fantasy. And let's be very clear, it took one hell of a civil rights movement to get the CRA and VRA across the finish line. Crediting the politicians for what that social movement accomplished is a slap in the face. You invoking Ronald Reagan is also a bit ironic. The reason legislation passed back then was because the New Deal politics were still dominant in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. By the end of the 1970s, the New Deal era was ending. It is the Reagan Revolution that ushered in the Congressional dysfunction we have today. Its emphasis on shrinking the federal government and rugged individualism is what has created so many road blocks to getting things done. You're lamenting the symptoms of the Reagan disease.
You are confusing different things. A presidential debate on network TV had a more civil tone, as that was the nature and norms of regulated network TV. That doesn’t mean society real life was more civil. Congress was more effective because 1. They spent most of their time in Washington and got to know each other. 2. Most congressman would say one thing at home but otherwise would vote what they thought was right which would include compromise. There weren’t TV or social media snippets making sure they adhered to 100% ideological purity. They likely weren’t under the constant risk of being primaried. 3. Most districts were not as one sided as they are now, which generally caused some degree of moderation.
His supporters are a cult. What do the republicans want other than immigrants locked up in a modern day Auschwitz? They have no policy objectives other than maybe liberty for stoves and dishwashers. The race is this close because the movie Idiocracy is coming true.
That kind of thinking is tribalism, historically it leads to war. Im different or better than you and dont care what you think is very dangerous. Calling someone stupid automatically invalidates any point you might of had. Its like slapping someone in the face... Immediate fight. You should be asking why they have immigrant or Stove/dishwasher issues, what are they concerned about? Some are beyond help, thats true for people in general, but alot of it is they dont want someone taking what little they already have or telling them what to do.
Debra Wasserman Schultz lives a block away from me. Yes, there is a large contingent of Latin Americans, but the City is about as liberal as it gets.
