It’s very possible that we have six top 10 teams on our schedule. If you take away the top three teams and the bottom three teams are six games right there that are in question. We may go three and three in those games and that’s not really that bad.

It all depends on how good those teams really are. We won't know that until the end of the regular season.

True but many will be ranked teams, possibly 6 in playoffs. Not a stretch at all.

3-6 vs top 30 teams is not very good. It’s not awful. Probably puts us 40th in the nation. Its progress but not good enough for year 3

I’d keep him if we go 4-5, the schedule is as hard as it looks, and we are competitive in most of the losses.

If we win 8-9, we are in playoff talk. We have to beat some good teams to get to 6 wins. This schedule isn’t the norm and at 6-6, we are by far better than 40th. List any six wins, not easy. 8 and we have beat several decent teams, more than likely playoff bound teams.

Agree wholeheartedly but I think part of that 8 would have to be wins over at least 2 of the following: UGAG, tx, LSU, FSU, Ole Piss, and Tn. That means starting the year 5-0 and beating Kentuck. Not unreasonable but I would like one of the two to be either ga or tx. And early losses are better than late ones.
Although, if we are good enough to start the season 5-0, then I think we get better than the 8 win mark.

This is an odd thread. Good off season thread. But here we are having not won more than 6 games in three or four seasons, facing the toughest pre season schedule in the nation, entertaining the idea that, if we win 8, can we make the playoffs. No team with more than two losses would have made it in last season.

6-6 for us this year is around 40th. Usually it’s worse than that but our schedule is tough.

But team strength is not directly related to record. It’s based on performance. If you play 10 games vs the #1 team and go 5-5, then your team strength is tied with the #1 team. If you play 10 games against top 10 and go 5-5, you are likely around 5th. Average results against the group leads to an average rank in the group.

If you go 3-6 vs top 35 teams you are likely a 30th-50th ranked team.

8 wins is borderline playoffs. Why? That means we went 5-4 vs top 35 teams which puts us squarely in the 10-15 range. Playoffs are now top 12.

9 wins is 6-3 which is bottom half of the top 10. Guaranteed playoffs

No one in our first 7 games is playoff bound.
If the Gators win the first 7, the likelihood is those teams will have 6-6 or worse records at the end of the regular season. The Gators entire season rests on the back half 5 games.

If you play the number one team in the country and go five and five, Chances are you’re the second best team in the country or maybe the best team in the country. That’s why these comparisons are dumb.

I dunno, doubtful but their schedule is ACC. Hopefully the committee will weigh their loss to UF as "a quality loss".

I would be ecstatic if we got more than eight wins, but I think everybody would. I don’t care which eight wins we get, we beat some good teams to get there. List them in any which way you want and that is some good wins.

Personally, I think eight wins are quite doable, not so much because we are better than last year, but because I don't think many of our opponents are as good as their preseason rankings. FSU simply lost Tavis and their strong defense. SEC teams that aren't Georgia or Alabama tend to be overrated in the rankings because (a) too many folks look at last year's team, and (b) too many folks don't take into account THEIR competition.

I am cautiously optimistic, but if the teams are as good as predicted, it may be a long year...

    Th
e sec just has better players and teams. The draft says so at least. Tennessee, A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Kentucky will all be ranked teams with future nfl players. Those are the average sec teams, not the bottom, not the top.

Exactly. If we are 3-6 vs top 35 teams then we are clearly not a top 25 caliber team

They aren’t top 35, much better schedule than that but I’m sure you’re aware but possibly not.
