Very tragic. 22-year-old loses his head, realizes what he’s done and kills himself. The 80-year-old victim is in critical condition. Tragic all the way around.

Spent some time over in the Keewenaw peninsula a couple summers ago. Hancock is the town directly across the bridge from Houghton, the peninsula's biggest town (pop 8k). There's a canal that runs through the entire peninsula and the only bridge is from Houghton to Hancock. Copper Harbor sits at the top of the peninsula on Lake Superior. It's pristine beauty in a highly isolated location. Apparently the population of Copper Harbor reduces to about 20 during winter.


Fun fact: Houghton gets 220" of snow annually. We think we get a lot over here in Duluth, but we get less than half that amount. Snowmobiles are big time over there. Another fact: US highway 41 runs all the way up ending at Copper Harbor. Folks from the west coast of FL are familiar with 41, which also runs from Miami to Naples before turning north up the west coast of FL.

On topic: Why did the kid commit suicide? It's a terrible act, but the man didn't die.
