lol .. Trump trashed the nuclear treaty Obama made with Iran, then did absolutely nothing as Iran said “sounds good to us” and ramped up its nuclear development…

 

What fool thinks signing a piece of paper - to someone with a belief system that encourages you to lie to non-believers - is going to hold water?
Just like the great Paris Climate Accord, which the Senate never ratified and China laughs at the West for engaging in it.
Sure must be nice to be a diplomat that travels around the world at government's expense and signs documents that mean nothing.

But, but, but...Trump negotiates the Abraham Accords and moves the embassy to Jerusalem and, God forbid, peace broke out.

 

I'm going to pretend you didn't make the laughable statement that "peace broke out" in Israel ... and just focus on Iran.

The deal Obama and other nations made with Iran had inspections and accountability. Trump said he was going to break the deal and get an even better deal. Iran said, "nope", if you break the deal, we are going back making our nukes. Trump broke the deal. Iran did exactly what they said they were going to do. Trump did nothing. Trump lied, again, and the world is less safe because of Trump's stupidity.

 

Wait, so the Abraham Accords, signed with Islamic countries, mean something but the Iranian Nuclear Agreement doesn't because it is signed with Islamic countries? Did you really think through this?

Yeah - on the surface it's a fair point. I would say that direction is key in this case: one country that sponsors terrorism and works to kill Americans and Jews is likely to do anything. Other countries that want to have positive relationships w/ the West/USA/Jews are coming to the table for a different reason.

This failure is on Trump. Before the original deal Trump scuttled, it was the belief Iran would need a year to have enough enriched uranium for a bomb. That was 2015. Trump ripped up the deal in 2018, and Iran started their program back up in 2020. It took them four years to get to this point.

Trump ripped up the deal because he thought he could negotiate a better one. He failed to get any deal with Iran. The first deal was good enough that afterwards, instead of taking 1 year to be bomb ready, it took Iran 4 years. Had Trump never reneged on Obama's deal, we wouldn't be here today.

If you think Iran ever slowed their development under the Obama deal then you are beyond naive. If you think they even gave a thought to slowing development, then you are something far more worrisome. As my dad would have said; Obama’s Iran-nuclear deal was “as useless as tits on a bull”!

And where was Trump's "better" agreement he promised?

 

Maybe it was because after the Obama agreement, Iran's nuclear bomb capabilities were set back several years? And while Trump ripped up the agreement, Iran didn't restart their weapons program until 2020.

What could he do? After Trump ripped up the Obama agreement, Iran refuses to even talk now. The war in Israel only convolutes the issue. Any military or covert attempt to slow Iran down likely results in an attack on Israel. Israel did try, and succeeded in assassinating a top Iranian scientist. But how much time did that buy? Probably not much.

The right course should've been keep the original agreement. And keep up the pressure to monitor Iran from all the countries that signed. Trump made that impossible. He promised a better deal and failed miserably. And now, we're here.
