It's a rehash of Reagan's Star Wars defense system.

I'm not on board with it. More $$$, for an abstract threat. I'm just not really concerned about Russia nuking us. MADD seems to be holding up just fine.

Southern border OTOH, has a body count of like 100k/ year (fenty +drugs, cartels, sex trafficking, terrorists, rapists, gangbangers...).

 

Agree with no reason for Star Wars. Curious as to where you get your 100k body count number from the border. Fentanyl yes, is a problem. But terrorists, rapists, and gangbangers? Overall, crime is down across the country.

 

But those are all future Democrat voters.

Iron dome is huge waste of dough to funnel cash to guys like Thiel.

We have oceans on east and west and great neighbors north and south. Israel is about 45 miles wide on average and is surrounded by a billion people who want to wipe it off the face of Earth.

I swear, Trump could say he’ll make metal jockstraps for everyone and some of you would come your pants, it’s so laughable.

 

The Iron Dome is system designed to protect Israel a country roughly the size of New Jersey from short range rockets. Last time I checked we are in no danger of rocket attacks from Canada, Mexico or the Bahamas. Israel also has other systems designed to protect against longer range attacks by cruise and/or ballistic missiles although even then the US isn't any direct danger short of an attack by ICBMS from Russia, China or North Korea and we already have systems designed to protect us against ICBMs although the reality is that they are not terribly reliable and even if the majority of incoming missiles are stopped even a small number can do incalculable damage.

 

Ugh. From Nike-Zeus to Brilliant Pebbles to our current Ground-based Midcourse Defense, the US has spent billions, hundreds and hundreds of billions over decades on trying to protect against a ICBM attack. And at best it might stop a few or a rogue attack, or from someone like NK. And that’s a maybe. And those abilities are already fully implemented. The task of stopping a larger attack has proven too difficult. And trump liking a catchy name like ‘Iron Dome’ won’t suddenly make it happen.

 

Does it sound cool, sure. Not sure you can convince me it's needed.

Here I was hoping we could for once get back to a balanced budget...

 

Meanwhile, people are referring to Israel’s once vaunted Iron Dome as “Cardboard Dome.”

 

Probably shouldn’t worry how much it will cost as it will cost no more than trumpCare and trump infrastructure.

 

Healthcare and infrastructure are so boring, wouldnt you rather have a costly system that didnt even work in a tiny country to keep defense contractors fat and giggly?

 

Do we need more infrastructure? Did we burn through Bidens 1 trillion for it already?
