Top Democrats resigned to Trump presidency

Changing a nominee this close to the election would be the dumbest move ever unless it's Harris. Biden has field offices all over the country. He has millions of campaign dollars in the bank. All of that would be gone. It is too late. We're rolling with Biden.

Also why are people all of a sudden wanting to ignore the DNC process? People were up in arms with what they did to Bernie.

 

Agreed. And beyond just the ability to win, I don’t think Biden will live to the end of his next term (if he were to win) let alone be fit to lead.

 

If he somehow pulls it off I hope he steps down after the inauguration.

 

the money is there to fill the bank. the machine can be repurposed fairly quickly. Biden team is playing the same stall game that djt does trying to keep the band together for four more years while Mick is dying at the mic. they enjoy the perks and privileges and don't want to have to brush up their resumes so to heck with what is best for the country

 

And plenty have publicly called for Biden to step aside. It's a balancing act. If Biden refuses to step aside, they're stuck with him. He's not going to get 25thed. They're between a rock and a hard place. They kind of have to play both sides right now, working behind the scenes to get Biden to drop out, but publicly (tepidly) saying he's ok. Trashing their own presidential nominee will also have a negative impact on down ballot races.

Our best hope is that Trump gets religion after his close encounter with death, withdraws from the race, and joins a monastery to commune with God.

 

And the field offices? There are hundreds of employees that you would have to rehire, new commercials, new campaign memorabilia all the wild people arguing about who should be running instead. The only options are Harris or Biden. Some people will agree and others will disagree, but I think Biden has a better chance than Harris. At this point I say we stick with Biden

 

I think people are forgetting that if you want to be President of the United States you have to have a huge ego. To expect that person to step down is unrealistic which is why I've said from the beginning that Biden isn't going anywhere

 

agree to an extent. Betting odds give Biden very roughly a 25% chance. And BOTH are older, Trump is 78.

but that 25% will drop the closer we get. At this point in 2020 Biden was up roughly 8% in the polls. Which had some accuracy as biden won the popular vote by millions. However Biden won 4 states by less than a combined 80k votes. He needs a big poll lead going in. And this isn’t considering states maga runs the legislature and won’t recognize the vote if Biden wins.

Because of what they saw in the debate. That was bad and more than just an off night or he had a cold. The country has a legitimate concern. What if he gets a call at 3AM? Where will he be in 3 years? People didn’t realize it was that bad. And at this point they believe there is a choice, and it doesn’t have to be trump or Biden. but it’s probably too late. Dems needed more effort on primaries including 2 or 3 debates.

Dems have had 4 years to figure this out but chose to play Orange Man Bad the whole time instead. The current situation is inexcusable, frankly. As much as I despise Trump the Dems are on the verge of reaping the down ballot disaster they’ve sown. Imagine how bad it will get if Biden doesn’t step down and has a similar performance in Debate 2 or elsewhere on the trail after the nominating convention? As it is now, he can barely read his teleprompter. It’s just sad to watch.

 

they try to go 25th and him fighting it would be awful and no way to start another candidate. Only option is him stepping down. It will take public pressure from heavier hitters. Pelosi, chuck,…..Obama.

I also tend to agree with what I think North was saying - invoking the 25th, in and of itself, probably doesn’t take him off the ballot. Absent something else happening, my understanding is that it would remove him from the presidency right now, but he would still be running to win the presidency back in November.

 

Any decent candidate with aspirations will likely wait until 2028. Biden is an embarrassment, but I don’t think it changes the math much. I don’t see many people changing their vote to Trump because Biden is a mess. This election is about how much moderates hate Trump. Do they hate him enough to get off their ass and go vote for Weekend at Bernie’s?

 

This^^^. Forcing him out would split the Dems and piss some folks off. It would be an epic disaster, but given what has transpired the last few years, it wouldn't surprise me.

In an ideal world, Biden would have been exposed earlier and announced not running during the primaries. It's really too late now to build a new campaign for the Dems at this point. Mail in Voting starts in less than 2 months in some states. Kamala could take over, but she is a terrible communicator and I doubt she could pull a lot of independents. If she ran, RFK Jr would pull more votes and give Trump the WH. They almost have no choice to stick with Biden, let others campaign for him, give him an event like once a week and hope he can hold it together for the next debate.
