Definitely, but we’ll have to see what happens today. Same with the Ross kid.

Are we at the point yet (mid 13th round) where our nil is better than signing money? Interesting to think we’ve got more bats than expected for next year. Still worried about pitching for 25.

Brendan Lawson says he's coming to campus.

SS/3B, Perfect Game has him ranked as the 57th best high school prospect in the nation, first in the state of Florida. Seems like a nice get.

Any ideas why Colby Shelton hasn't been drafted? He was projected #64 by Baseball America. Seems odd that it's now the end of Round 16 and his name still hasn't shown up.

Probably some combination of BA's ranking being overly optimistic and an understanding that Shelton is going to be a tough sign.

First truly bad news of the draft: Michael Ross, Round 18, pick 548, by the Twins.

(EDIT: & Cardinals pick Brendan Lawson, Round 19, pick 561.)

Lawson just got drafted in the 19th round by St. Louis. We’ll have to see if they have any additional pool money to offer the kid.

Yeah, MLB had Shelton ranked #133 and maybe #64 was a bit high. Either way, Shelton put a number out that teams were unwilling to meet and being he was a draft eligible SOPH, he can bet on himself to make improvements in his bat to ball skills as a JR next season and still hold some leverage in next year’s draft.

Most money they will have left in late rounds is 300-500k tops.

From Washington's perspective it's probably worth a shot. Shelton's a higher quality player than you're usually going to find that late in the draft. He's almost certainly not going to sign, but it's not unheard of for players to buckle when a team drafts them and starts offering them hundreds of thousands of dollars, even if the player has already said that won't be enough.

He was projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Nobody wants to waste a second round pick on a guy that’s not going to sign.

Article on 247Sports says it would probably take at least $150,000 signing bonus offer for Ross to sign. That's not much.

Where have you read, seen or heard that he wouldn't sign? Maybe he got the word out to the MLB teams, but it's something that's not been said or posted anywhere I've seen.

Rumors are that he floated a pretty high number out there. It seems fairly obvious.

He’s not unsignable, but nobody wants to waste a high pick on a guy that’s unlikely to sign. They do exactly what they did. Grab him late, throw over slot at him, and see what happens.
