It’s only he could just hire the best coordinator in the world, That would be a no-brainer, wouldn’t it?

That would be awesome, if our guys can pull it off.

With the crapola leftover from Grantham, and the poop that backed us up last year, here's hoping Roberts is a giant, much-needed enema for the defense.

Sometimes it takes a few years to put a staff together, especially when you're not at a P5 level and can bring your own A+ guys or can pull them away from other teams. Roberts might have been Napier’s 1st choice 2 years ago, just not available.

Our guys are a year older and still young, but I believe we were going to see something different

I’m still reeling from those T. Grantham defenses. My twitches and high blood pressure are still in the recovery stages.

    Incorrect.

It's interesting how bellyachers are so often wrong about "spittin" facts".

Anyone paying attention knows what Roberts' responsibilities are. Heck, if ya actually read the article linked by the OP, it told you who was hired to "run the defensive side of the ball". Hint- not Roberts.

I know bellyachers don't like to read much, it gets in the way of illiterate hot takes. So, I'll bring over the quote... To be fair, I understand it was at the end of the little story. It's tough to pay attention to the whole thing.

    "Big Picture

On a defense stacked with premium talent, the Florida Gators need Ron Roberts to channel whatever emotion and passion he can into the defense. Granted, he will not call plays or change the scheme.

That remains the job of defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong."

Uhhhh what!??!?! Mr 700 was and is as unqualified as they come. The only reason he is even on staff is for BN to save face. Think about it, how do you look if you fired two DCs in your first 2 years at a school?

The biggest addition of the offseason is getting Roberts. My guess is no one is dropping 700 yards against us this season.

I understand where you're coming from, and I don't disagree about who's ultimately responsible. Who would? I also hope your aside about the third time being the charm comes to pass. TBH, I've just heard similarly accurate but unsurprising observations regarding our miserable D so many times that it hardly seems worth discussing. The D has stunk more than a bit for quite a while now. And it is BN's job to fix it. We get it. But I personally haven't given up on the D or Billy just yet, and I'm not one to wallow in misery at every turn. The truth is, if things don't look up reasonably soon, it will all become moot anyway. I'll jump off that bridge when I come to it.

Last year I would have been happy to see an average defense.

It has to be well above average this year to get the wins we need and continue elevating recruiting.

I personally think that an average defense last year would have netted us at least three more wins. If we had finished 8-4 with a bowl game played, the narrative would be that UF showed improvement on both sides of the ball and continues to add better talent. But, we didn’t have that and this year’s schedule is absolutely brutal.

Elite teams would struggle to be 10-2 on paper with what we have waiting for us. If CBN can pull 8 wins this season, I think we see an entirely different narrative moving forward. One that I think finally stabilizes our beloved program. Just my $.02 though.

If that's what you want to believe go for it.

Armstrong holds the title and will be the face of the defense on game day.
But he doesn't fart without Roberts mentoring him on how to let it out.

Based on some of the busts and breakdowns last year, I'm actually OK with that.

I want to see the appropriate scheme and talent applied to pressuring QBs. There's too much talent at the edge positions for the Gators not to have a consistent pass rush, most of it acquired over the last two cycles. Is that part of Roberts' MO?

Theoretically sure, who is our elite pass rusher?

We don’t have one. Scheme will dictate how much pressure we put on teams this year
