Many Americans refuse to learn another language too, I don't mind learning other languages in passing conversations about certain words and phrases, but not as real study course. I took a few semesters of languages in prep-school but never took it past that.

But I would rather be American than French... or any other nationality. No offense to you or the English, Limey.

Just calling out the discrepancy between calling the entire Dem party communist and then suggesting that calling other folks fascist is unfair.

None taken, Rick. I love the USA passionately, and hear what you're saying.
My Britishness is just innate. It's not about competition for me - it's about what I grew up with.

Really? It is not a moment to pray, it's a moment to reflect and pray if you do that sort of thing. Wow.

I totally understand, but I do love Britain and the British people.

It's a moment to reflect, or... it's whatever one chooses to do with that free time.

@LimeyGator what is the public take on this issue

is Labour is proposing to remove inheritance tax exemption on family owned companies. These companies have sustained family wealth for centuries and may now have to be sold off to pay inheritance taxes? Will this destroy a long time anchor of the british economy that brings much stability?

Labour is about to crush what’s left of Britain’s economy (msn.com)

Let’s just take a few examples. There is plenty of speculation that a shake-up of inheritance tax may well remove the exemption for unlisted, family-owned companies. This relief means that a company can be passed down without having to pay tax on its value. Over the next few months we will no doubt hear lots about how that is a “tax break” for the “few” that we can no longer afford, although in reality the Treasury only forgoes about £1.4 billion in tax that might otherwise be collected.

And yet that misses the point entirely. If tax is levied at 40pc when a business is passed on from one generation to the next, in effect the heirs could be left with no choice but to sell it simply to meet the bill due from HMRC. We also have countless studies to show that family-owned businesses are often the most stable part of the economy, with high rates of investment and excellent employment records. Take a look at JCB, one of the UK’s largest exporters, or indeed the business run by the family of the new prisons minister, James Timpson, for evidence of that.

We should be helping them do even better. Instead, Labour could be about to vindictively force them to be sold off, often to private equity firms that will bleed them of cash and then flog off the assets. Huge numbers of private businesses could be destroyed.

So, don't pray or pray. How is that even offensive. We have the Constitutional right to freedom of expression and NO ONE is forcing you or anyone to participate.

We'll know more shortly. The King is on his way to Parliament (presumably for tea and biscuits) to set out the Labour legislative agenda for this term. 35 new laws expected to be announced, or plans for at least.

What I would say is that is a Daily Telegraph article - not known for the most robust of journalistic impartiality (informally known as the ToryGraph) so any references to 'crushing' the economy are full of hyperbole. And ironic given the last shower's work on that front...

So... are you happy with the election results overall? And do you have a good outlook for politics in the near future of GB?

I qualify the source but the economic fabric of the UK has encouraged the generational wealth and long term business approach held by "family" offices that will be traded for next quarter result when PE takes over the family enterprises

Honestly, I don't really trust anyone in politics. Those bridges need to be rebuilt.
    The last Government were dire.
This one, as of yet, has done nothing.

I'll let you know how I feel in 2/3 years...

So, talk is just talk, and you can't really trust them to do what they are saying? Are they at least saying the right things? That's a hit and miss, because sometimes you get lucky with rhetoric versus actions, but most of the time they never fulfill their promises..

That's it in a nutshell for me, Rick.

Until they, or anyone else, delivers it's just talk. I'm tired of empty promises.
