That’s what I’m saying. During Bowden we hated fsu the most, now it’s the puppies. We still hate em all the most but the puppies have our attention Rt now. During Sourrier, we just laughed at them.
I think it depends more on where you live. In the panhandle, sure it's always fsu, but in SFla it is Miami hated without reservation. Similarly, I lived in SFla a long time and never met a Cane fan that hated FSU more than UF. Maybe things have changed but I doubt it. Georgia has always been #1 or #2 for me no matter if we were winning or not. Off topic but talking to a couple of Vols awhile back was surprised to hear their hate for all things Kentucky. Of course UF and Bama are still #1 and #2 in no particular order for them. With Bama it is mainly football, with the Gators its most every sport.
I think the better question is which of said teams are a dumber fanbase. 1. Tenn. 2. FSU. 3 Miami only because the sample size of them is small. Move UGA to No.1 if they are included.
I’m in Pensacola and I definitely hate Georgia the most at this point. FSU is kind of a laughing stock.
That's kind of a loaded question. It would be hard to determine who really hates UF the most without including some of the "fans" on this and some other Gator sites. Just sayin.'
Gotta disagree here Wing. No way our rivalry with SWAC is as steeped in tradition as The Border War. I hate ref$u more than anybody, but the Florida/Georgia game is a far more established and respected rivalry.
It’s all relative to time (woahhhh). In the 90s it was FSU and UT because they were the biggest threats. Not saying Georgia wasn’t meaningful, they just kinda sucked then so the games weren’t as intense as the Noles/Vols. You’d be hard pressed to find a series of games that were more intense and impactful than those 90’s UF/FSU games. And the UF/UT games weren’t far behind. I’d give my left nut to return to that.
Of course over our lifetimes that’s true. Spurrier/ Bowden changed that for a while. Georgia was our bitch for so long, we kinda forgot about them for a while and turned our attention to the clowns.. The Tennessee rivalry use to be quite a bit stronger too but they’ve been down so long it’s lost steam.
I always thought of FSU as the biggest rival…until Georgia improved and became elite, same for ‘Bama, but this board skews older. Any feeling on current players and students? Seems like the players are now more like colleagues in a competitive job market. IDK how current students feel.
I still consider fsu our biggest rival, mostly because we have to live amongst them and recruit against them. That's only partially true for Georgia. Obviously, beating Georgia is a really big deal these days due to their recent success. TN does seem like less of a rival since they've been down for so many years in the last couple of decades. I never did hold as much outright disdain of TN fans as I still do for fsu and Miami. The age of the fan also has much to do with his view of rivalries. For example, I never really considered Auburn a rival, and I know older Gators definitely do from the days that we played them more often. But, all that is from one UF fan's perspective, not from the perspective of the fans of the three schools in Wing's original post.
We were unfortunately Georgia’s bitch for the decades of 60s and 70s and who can forget Run Lindsey Run? Vince Dooley had our number and there wasn’t much Ray Graves and Doug Dickey could do about it. It wasn’t until SOS took the wheel at UF that we suddenly won like 9 out of 10 to turn things around.
Yep, will always remember a barking drunk female dawg on all fours BEFORE a game in Jax. Not a pretty sight. It was the 90s so dawgs were long gone by half time.
UM and FSU are interchangeable. Most of their fans didn't go to college, they share the same bandwagon, and the fans just migrate from one end of it to the other depending which end is on fire at the moment. Reversible clothing with both schools on it would sell like hotcakes.
