If this could only be done in Washington—- never mind, deficits don’t really matter—— DeSantis reduces Florida spending in new budget, retains surplus and key investments The governor’s office also noted how Florida debt has been reduced by 36% since he took office, or $6.3 billion. And on Wednesday, the Cabinet approved a measure to pay down another $500 million.
If it was done in Washington then that would mean that Florida's budget would be impacted since a 3rd of the budget comes from the Fed
Florida is one of the least dependent states when it comes to the federal government. Do You Live in the State That's Most Dependent on the Federal Government? Shoot. In 2021 when the feds would spend anything. No state had a third of its budget dependent on the federal government let alone Florida as one of the least dependent… Which states rely the most on federal aid?
"In between, there were vetoes denying vehicles to scores of police and fire departments, $6.4 million to provide free menstrual products to public school students, money for local museums and cultural events, and millions to private, non-profit organizations that help the homeless, the hungry, drug addicts and foster children." Florida's DeSantis cuts $1B to bring state budget to $116.5B, slightly less than the current plan
Most, not all. 'In 2021, 45 states required the governor to submit a balanced budget to the legislature; 44 states required the legislature to pass a balanced budget; 41 states required the governor to ultimately sign a balanced budget; and 35 states required the budget to be balanced at year-end (that is, the state cannot “carry over” a deficit). Overall, 29 states and the District of Columbia imposed all four requirements on their budget process. Still, BBRs typically only apply to states’ operating budgets, meaning that capital and pension funds are usually exempt from these limitations." What are state balanced budget requirements and how do they work?
I liked that someone disagreed with this when Florida constitutionally has to have a balanced budget lol
The budget did include money for UF to buy 3,000 acres of land west of Gainesville. The plan is to build/develop 500 acres with a golf course and put the rest under conservation. DeSantis vetoes $14.8M in Alachua County funds, OKs $38M land purchase for UF
No climate change therefore no rising water levels or higher intensity rain events..presto, problem.solved. Fyi, south Florida has now had a 1x per 200 year rain event each of the last 4 years so they should be good for at least 800 years
DeSantis celebrates lowest per capita state debt in nation, continued pay debt paydowns “We’ve retired 36% of the state’s taxpayer finance debt since I’ve became governor,” he continued. “You look at the federal government, $34+ trillion, your share as an American is over $100,000.”
How much money did he allocate to send Florida national guardsmen to the border of Texas? How much did he allocate to fly immigrants in Texas to Martha's Vineyard? Quit pretending like he's small govt fiscal conservative you jackalopes.
Color me unsurprised that Stude has become a DeSantis fan. It was the natural result of his "anti-woke" inclination. What's a little authoritarianism as long as you get to stick it to the "wokes"? Oh right, I forgot, DeSantis is a fiscal conservative. Just ignore all the millions he spends defending his unconstitutional laws and on his other political stunts.
Only you can come up with a deficit cut as being an anti- "woke" thing. I lived my whole life practicing what I preach and believe about not overspending and buying only what I can pay for. I saved enough money up from summer jobs to pay for my first car. And no, the jobs did not fall into my lap, I had to go get them. Not one dollar from my parents and no one else for that matter. My wife and I built our home ourselves, saving money each paycheck to put towards building materials until we had it built. Took 5 years. We lived in a 34' trailer until the house was ready to move into. No one else had a dollar invested in it, just us. Never got a loan for anything that we didn't pay off early. Still the same way today. Never had a government handout or asked for one. Joined the military during Vietnam because I was patriotic and felt it was my duty, did not seek a government deferment like many of my classmates and others, just to get out of going into the military. Have always believed that it is all of our duty to serve our country. Never said our county was always right and certainly not since Vietnam. But I guess all those beliefs are now considered "anti Woke" by people like yourself. I applaud Desantis for this accomplishment, it is very rare in any politics to do ----
