What do Gator fans think about these two new additions? Texas is everyones darling this off season, justifiably so, given their playoff appearance last season. Although one good season, is not exactly a dynasty. Is Steve S really "The Man"? Considering these two have always seemed to be the dominant programs in their old conference, are you guys and gals hoping they get a little bit of SEC "punishment", as in, this ain't your Big 12 kiddos. Or are you rooting for them at all (unless it's against our Gators?) I would kinda like to see them take a few lumps myself. Thoughts?
I certainly won't be rooting for either of them, but I think both schools are fantastic additions to the SEC. They make the SEC bigger and stronger. I actually think what the SEC gained with the additions of Texas and OU is more than the Big-10 gained with adding USC, UCLA, UW and Oregon. I think they just make the Big-10 bigger.
Just curious why you think this. I can understand the argument against Mizzou, but I think Texas A&M was a great addition to the SEC.
Texas is stacked according to the pundits. I would like to see Arch actually play meaningful minutes to see his game. I'm still surprised Dillon (QB) from the Sooners hit the portal, guess he was not "feeling it" with Jackson Arnold in the background.
Texas is not “southeastern” in geography or culture. Adding A&M added money to the pot and nothing else. Missouri? A total joke. Now watch everybody streaming in behind these two — adding Texas just swings the personality and influence in our conference more “Texan”, and now here come the Okies - we’ve polluted our conference with Big 8 and SWC characters. Not good in my opinion - we were fine without them, and if we hadn’t been so damn eager to outpace the Big 10 none of the bullshit we have today would be happening and the Big 10 would look like a bunch of idiots with all their Nebraskas and Marylands and Rutgers. The SEC was too busy trying to be the leader when we already were the leader, and all we ended up doing was validating the super conference BS when we didn’t need to do anything except keep dominating college football
I agree Skink but the ship has sailed, the old ways are over and all of College Football will continue to be evolving like crazy for the next few years until the "warts" are shaken out. The NCAA has to pay back what? 2.5 billion to players? Unrestricted Free Agency is in effect, and the salary or (NIL Cap) is coming I think. Personally I predicted when NIL and the re-forming of confrences was in the air, that I expected something like 36 - 48 teams would survive on some sort of NFL model. Which is what appears to be happening, to me. I feel for the West Coast Programs. They are destroying football out west. Not to mention the many spring sports that will be discontinued due to transportation costs associated with flying West to East. Perhaps it's only the football teams effected, I'm really not sure, I hope so, because I support sports other than football. I wonder how many West coast programs are suing the NCAA right now over this?
I agree with the sentiment, but I think the landscape was changing with or without us. Hoard the best teams you can get in your conference, or watch the other conferences try to hoard them in theirs.
Fair enough. You're entitled to your opinion. The SEC could have taken the ACC approach at sat back and done nothing and we'd probably have seen the the SEC fade, like the ACC. And if the SEC hadn't taken Texas A&M, would they have gone to the ACC? They probably would have. If the Big-10 and SEC hadn't pounced on these major programs when they became available, it could well have been the ACC and Big-12 that were the top conferences and the SEC and Big-10 could be the dying conferences. Personally, I think the SEC has been masterful in it's expansion. When the opportunity arose with Texas A&M, they took it. And they got the best available second piece in Mizzou. They expanded the footprint into contiguous states. No other conference has done that. The "geography" of the move was very smart in my opinion. That's been the real strength of the SEC in the TV revenue deals. The SEC probably doesn't get that big of a deal without Texas A&M. I've never really understood the conference "culture" argument. Are you arguing that Mississippi State and UF share culture? Every SEC school has it's own culture. I love that about the conference. Personally, I like the Texas, TAMU and OU unique "culture" too. Mizzou has it's own culture too. I think all these schools fit very well into the SEC, both geographically and culturally.
Those two new additions being asses for 40 more years and their fans being trash would almost make me hate them about half as bad as I hate FSU.
I get the moves as far as business but none of them have won shit yet. Tge sec still rules football without them.
The SEC never was and never has been in the same situation as the ACC. Apples and oranges. SEC was on top and would have stayed on top as long as we kept winning. In contrast, the ACC was never a force in football. You can’t compare the two
The moves aren't about adding teams that win championships. They are totally business moves. Nothing more. The moves are what will give UF and the other SEC schools $60M+ in revenues each year. That's absolutely what this is all about.
