Our D has been stellar at making mediocre QB’s look heisman worthy for way too long. Hopefully we end the streak.
I completely agree, the new Miami QB is very comparable, statistically to the previous QB. My biggest concern about Miami is the defensive line. They seem loaded at that position group so our offensive line will have a big challenge. I don't quite get the media love and the high rankings for them as compared to UF. Mario has been barely .500 in his three years. Both clubs are very similar, yet Miami is top 10. None of that matters, this is pundit season anyway and opinions are a dime a dozen. The issue will be settled August 31st, and I like UFs chances, at home, to start the season.
Miami is forever overrated at the beginning of every year...they go 5-0 make it to the top 10 and then get some more challenging teams and go belly up and eventually finish with a 50th ranking or so...we just need to be the challenging team for them in game one and put them in their place ealry. Im not talking about a 3 point win but a 20 point beat down. I think it may happen too...the Swamp is a big advantage for us and we have a returning QB who is talented. Hope the rest of the squad plays to the level they should and coaches dont do stupid stuff to cost us momentum or a game (you know what Im talking about here).
Yep...one way or another its going to be difficult to get the smell out of the stadium after this game.
We should send backups out for the kickoff coin toss and kick em all in the nuts to start the festivities. It would be more famous than the filipino divers.
Going to be very interesting to see the game. These 1st week games are always a little weird with new players and systems/plays going in. Conditioning will be interesting to see as well considering it's going to be as hot as the surface of the sun I am sure. Both teams trying to prove something this season, only time will tell. These people on the internet are all trying to be the next person to say see I called that team to be good or bad. I try to go by Vegas most of the time to see who they think will be good or bad based on win totals but even then they can be wrong all the time as well. Season is getting close can't wait to. Will be at UF for this game in my Hurricanes gear with my son.
Wife will be there in her Gators stuff since she is a UF Alum. We say this knowing my son will hopefully get into UF and go there. I will probably lose him then and I will be all alone.
I heard years ago that while Florida issued more undergraduate degrees, Miami gave out more Masters & PhD's. Question for you; was that for Dr. Dre, Dr. J, etc. And did Miami give P Diddy an honorary degree?
I listened to that game as a 8 year old on the radio...Bad form? ,yes, but it was glorious! Chuck Foreman is still pissed.
Its Miami...youre going to need to kick with aim. Either theyre real tiny or like FSU... "transitioned".
The biggest difference for this Cane offense unfortunately is they now have a mobile QB who is also a good passer. Mobile QB’s have changed the game and put much more stress on defenses by making D’s account for them in the running and passing games. So while the new QB and Van Dyke have similar passing stats, he brings much more value to their offense with his ability to escape pass rush and extend plays by throwing or running. Hopefully we can pressure him into mistakes and our secondary and LB’s will be more aggressive in reading and jumping routes this year and get a pick or two this game.
Like most have said, it's going to come down to our defense. Mertz and Co. have managed to get us scoring mid 20's to 30 points and with a decent defense, that should be a recipe to win most games.
Correct....down .5 from a month ago. Circa Sportbook released odds on 7 of our games. We're only favored over UCF so far with them. Miami +3 UCF -6 Tenn +9 GA +19 TX +19 LSU +6 FSU +11
But fortunately for us he had a similar QB rating to Van Dyke, despite playing in an offense tailored for him, leading a team that underperformed from the previous year.
Fortunately, he is not a huge threat at running. He averaged 1.2 yards per carry and the most yards he ran for in a game last year was 43 yards on 17 carries. Also, this will be his first game in a new system in front of 90,000 fans in the swamp in August. They will be playing conservative and if they need to get aggressive it could be a real bad day for him.
