My friend tells the story of the statistician who stands with a foot in ice and a foot in the fire. On average he feels pretty good. On average, your explanation seems pretty smart.

So you're saying I was wrong? We didn't underachieve in the regular season? 28-27 was the expectation?

That is a silly question. No one, fan or player/coach, wants that to be the "expectation"? I think the issue is the conclusion you drew from the win/loss ratio: That is was, based on what was posted, solely "on the coaches". I think others, speaking for myself, believe it may have been more complex than simply "the coaches". It is possible that the apparent 'under-achievement' was - possibly - an outcome of a strategy pursued by the staff, (given what we were all seeing as shortcomings on the field) to take stock, accept setbacks at one time for a potential payoff in the future, or to allow time for player development steps taken in practice, in the coaches office, in the film room, to take hold in time for post season.

Or you could be right. The coaches just suck at their job and the players suddenly woke up to their latent ability and talent and decided to just "turn it on", no matter what the lousy coaches did or said.

The coach can call the pitch and the location. Ultimately the pitcher has to hit his spot.

The coach can put any offensive play on i.e. the SAC bunt. Ultimately the player has to get it down.

The list of examples can go on and on. Ultimately it takes teamwork. The coaches working with the players to achieve their goals.

Personally I wish them plenty of luck and all the success it takes to achieve their goals and dreams. Let’s do this Gators!

Yes, it is fair to say UF underachieved in the regular season. But being the goal each year for any college baseball team is to get to Omaha and knowing how difficult it is to get there, the regular season is almost irrelevant now. We played well enough in the regular season to sneak into the tournament and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.

    Where the crawfish stay.
Wasn’t it the 2018 team that was loaded to the gills and was the#1 overall seat only to get knocked out in the supers?
They had a great season and I think the best record in baseball .
Very fun to watch. Just didn’t make it to Omaha. This team is polar opposite.
Once the tournament starts it’s a brand new season and the only thing that matters is when you lose your last game.
    Everything prior has no bearing.

Edit. K. My bad. I thought Texas tech bumped us . I’m getting older and my memory isn’t what it was.

It's all good, just hoping UF does well in the CWS.

That was the Lang With a Bang super regional.

Also we have won 9 supers in a row so it is impossible we lost the 2018 super.

You are correct, in that two things can be true at the same time. It sees almost obtuse not to recognize this.

Your position, however, presumes if one truth exists, then another must necessarily follow. In this case, you presume that our coaches must be incompetent, if our regular season record wasn't good.

One doesn't follow the other. A mediocre regular season record is no reflection on the quality of our coaching staff and that is what I-and most of the other posters on this board--disagree with.

Our run in the post season proves you were wrong in making this false equivalency.

Well stated, better than I did, but captures the sentiment.

    Words matter.
