You are right that the cases are similar in that they all wanted to be heroes. What I was commenting on is probable outcome because in this case I don’t see how there could be any claim of self-defense.

Zimmerman asserted that Martin was pounding his head against the pavement, and that he had to fire to keep from receiving serious injury. In this case, the teenagers didn’t even point their airsoft guns at him.

 

I don’t think the guy Rittenhouse shot was “just minding his own business”.

Good guy shoots? Who thinks he is a good guy? Who has defended him?
How many on this thread have claimed racism was at the heart of this ( with zero knowledge or evidence).
The shooter seems to be a pure ass and needs to be locked away. Some on this thread SEEM to care more about cheering against the other political party than what actually happened.

 

Yeah, I don’t like @phatGator’s implication that Trayvon “attacked” Zimmerman. An adult stranger following an innocent child at night through his own neighborhood… I see that as self defense.

Imagine your kid says "hey can I borrow the car to return this gift BB gun to Dick's" and they don't come home because of this fool? And in America we seem to have come to accept it as ordinary, I mean, who was actually shocked when they read the story?

 

Like it or not to characterize an almost 6ft 17 year old as a “child” is a bit much.

 

I was also once an almost 6 ft tall 17 year old, and yes I was a child, kid, minor, or whatever you want to call it.

 

You may have been a child in maturity but physically you were hardly a child. That’s my point but you knew that.

 

I don’t see your point. My 13 year old nephews are taller than me. What difference does that make? They are kids. What you are saying has large implications.

He was there because his son was in jujitsu classes at the martial arts studio next to the sporting goods store. He told police he had to act to protect his son and there wasn't enough time to call 911. He apparently told the police some things that were directly refuted by surveillance videos.

While he was a security guard, he was not one at that shopping center.

I feel for your nephews, trying to be the average 13-year-old but instilling irrational fear in people, which can be dangerous for them. No one should have to endure that but no denying it's part of our societal fabric

I’ll accept your pushback on Martin attacking Zimmerman. The fact is neither one of us knows exactly what happened that night or who started the fight.

Witnesses said they saw Martin on top pounding Zimmerman‘s head into the concrete, and Zimmerman injuries were consistent with that. That doesn’t mean that Martin started it.

My point in the comparison was that whereas Zimmerman made a defense that he feared for his life, the oversight shooter has no such defense. Therefore I think he will be convicted.

By the way, please don’t take my comments as any kind of defending Zimmerman.
