I wonder if his politics have shifted or if he feels politics has left him where he is.

*Edit. Just saw his response and it is dead on correct*

I know I feel that way and many, like me do.

Politically I really havent changed. Social conservative, fiscal moderate, but pretty liberal when it comes to social need programs.

It used to be I could be those things and still have my place in Republican circles and vote with the party for the most part.

I havent changed, so who moved?

We have been members for both small and large churches. I really like the personal-ness of small churches but I also like the diverse ministries of large churches

    Where is the lie Bluke?

Where is Trump even remotely similar to Christ?
Outside of both befriending prostitutes (for totally different reasons). ;)

    Jesus was poor and homeless.

Jesus never mistreated a single person ,much less a woman.

    Jesus rebuked pride.

Jesus said ALL need redemption and confession of sin.

Jesus sacrificed everything from birth to death for you and I.

Jesus had no interest in attacking an evil political system.

Jesus forgave and spoke no ill towards His enemies (even while hanging on a cross that THEY put Him on!)

Jesus was laser focused on the poor and destitute.

Jesus said to pay your taxes.

Jesus told men to have ONE wife.

Jesus commands us to love Hillary, transgendered people and scared women who seek abortions. (He doesnt say agree or bow down to their ways, but hateful speech isnt his strategy)

Jesus condemned the type of rants that Trump blasted out nightly on Twitter.

    How about this one:
Jesus never peddled scripture for money, like Greenwood/Trump are.

    The list is endless.

Trump is an antichrist. A wolf in sheeps clothing. The forces of evil are celebrating the blindness of Jesus' followers

Spot on. Most of the modern GOP has nothing to do with conservatism.

yep. A large church obviously can do big charitable works and far reaching ministries, but it can be underestimated the value a small church can have on their local neighborhood. I’ve seen it first hand - ie a small church stepping up to help a local improvised young single mother, small food banks for locals with limited transportation, spot-ministry, giving small gifts of thanks to nurses at nearby hospitals during Covid, Christmas toy drive for locals that can’t afford, etc. And with declining attendance if they close, that’s it. They aren’t building new small churches.

I‘m episcopal which means the leadership of the higher offices of the church are decidedly liberal. My view on this as a conservative is that they accept some of the moral downfalls of liberalism in order to create a place in church for everyone. I can get with that to a degree. There is a place for everyone that sins including me an admitted sinner. However, normalizing sin has no place in the church. Political hacks like this guy are paid to stir up hate against good God fearing Christians which hold this country together.

This guy, and his wife, are good God fearing Christians. They are being attacked because of those who stir up hate.

This is the type of blanket statement that is way off reality.

Trump is a politician. Not a Church leader. He is not running to lead the Church. Yet he is the one who promotes policies the Church would support. Unlike the opponents he has faced. And he actually did promote the policies that the Church would promote when elected.

Nothing is more the opposite of Christ than pushing policies to legally kill the most innocent for convenience!

    Q. That is exactly what the evil forces in dark places do strategically. They appear to do good. Good heavens, the scriptures literally warn us of this.

It is no surprise! The devil makes himself look like an angel of light. (NLT.)
    2 Corinthians 11:14.

I agree that Trump will support pro life causes, bit so would Romney, Haley, Pence and many of the others that Trumpers think of as RINOs.

Explain why we didnt nominate one of these decent people when we had the chance?

This isnt an issue with Trump vs Dems.
Its an issue of Trump vs good conservatives.

    Yet here we are.

They would. But they are not the option in the general election are they? I never voted for Trump in a primary. But he did walk the walk the 4 years he was in office when it comes to policy.

That was amazing. Now tell us how the working men and women at Bud deserved the cancellation your ilk did to them all because some exec decided to give a trans influencer her own can?

IRT Abortion, yes. He did nominate the same judges any conservative would have.

But what other Christlike policy did he actually produce?

And if you mention covid, I may be like Jesus and flip over my desk.;)

He was terrible on Covid. Not sure what that has to do with the Church. Other than he did lock us down and keep us from worshipping. Though imo he was early on realizing he screwed that one up. Just think if we had Clinton in office trying to keep people from worshipping with likes of fauci and his ignorance.

That said...he did give most people an unnecessary shot. ;)o_O:devil:

Ok. We agree he sucked on Covid. Perfect.

So what Christlike policy did he evoke?

Interesting. My friend was the pastor for a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation, which is decidedly liberal. It is very different from the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) that is derived from conservative Calvinist roots. Sadly, and maybe it is more the region of the country than the larger church philosophy was forced from his position when it was learned that his two adopted daughters were....different. His older daughter was black and his younger adopted daughter is a lesbian. He was living in Tennessee at the time. He left life of being a pastor for a church congregation as a result of this experiences.

I still guess that it has as much to do with the region of the country as the overall philosophy of any given church body, but what do I know?

Back to political binaries I see. I did not participate in any cancellation of Bud. If Bud had a commercial with Donald Trump in it downing a Bud Light, I would support your right to not buy any Bud related products. I would blame the CEOs of Bud for idiotic brand management, and I would not blame you.

One funny Catholic specific corollary to the Trump = Jesus argument has to do with Catholic arguments for “trad wife” Given how Catholics venerate Mary and cite the Magnigicat, the Catholic tradwife movement say that Mary provides the example for good Catholic wives.

Technically, they rely on the part of Luke just before the actual Magnicat , right after the Angel Gabriel tells Mary she will bear a son, etc. I have highlighted the key language they use:

And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,* and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”*
And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
    And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
For nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

The Magnificat/Canticle is a beautiful example of Mary’s spirit of submission to the Divine Will. But my wife and I always laugh about (with some fear) talking about guys like Harrison Butker arguing that Catholic wives should be “trad” and submit, following Mary’s example. You want to yell at them words to the effect of “Man, Mary was submitting to GOD."

"But you’re not God, even if you think you should be treated that way by your wife!”

Revised as I found the article:

What sets Catholic trad wives apart from their mainline Protestant counterparts, however, is their emphasis on Mary. Many Catholic trad wives model their appearance and behavior after a decidedly Euro-American Mary. I have documented the growth of veiling traditions among traditionalist Catholic women, who describe how wearing the veil made them like Mary, who is almost universally pictured with a long flowing veil.

It is this performance of hyperfemininity that allows Catholic tradwives to conflate themselves with a self-sacrificial Mary. Her emphatic yes at the Annunciation is the model of submission to God and to men, her motherhood is seen as her divine vocation, and, thus, Mary becomes the ideal Catholic trad wife. Mirroring her is not only a vocation toward sainthood but also the only way to raise "little saints."

Many Catholic trad wife influencers use the term "divine womanhood," but it actually dates to New Age spirituality — specifically the Goddess Worship movement of the 1960s and 1970s.

Catholic trad wives pose a formidable political and religious force
