We're talking about a select committee responsible for overseeing the intelligence community and its agencies. My understanding is that these committee members get access to the most classified information that even members of other committees dealing with foreign policy don't get to see.

I don't know much about Perry, but Jackson seems to have problems with alcohol, continues to describe himself as a retired Admiral despite having been demoted from that rank, and got detained during a verbal altercation with police in Texas last year.

House speaker appoints two Trump loyalists to intelligence committee

Two far-right Republicans have been appointed to the highly sensitive House of Representatives’ intelligence committee at the direction of Donald Trump, a move likely to antagonise the security establishment.

Representatives Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Ronny Jackson of Texas, known for their fierce loyalty to Trump and vocal support of his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election result, were installed by the House speaker, Mike Johnson, ahead of other qualified GOP members and apparently without consulting the body’s chair, Mike Turner.

    ****

Perry, a former chairman of the hard-right Freedom Caucus, was at the forefront of Trump’s efforts to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election. His endeavours led to his phone being confiscated by the FBI, an organisation he will now have a role in scrutinising.

    ****

Jackson, a former White House physician to both Trump and Barack Obama, came to public notice in 2018 when the then Republican president tried to appoint him as secretary of veterans affairs.

There is no conclusion to be drawn other than the GOP is a party that wants to burn it all down.

Some additional detail on the qualified people passed over solely to appease Trump by installing loyalists.

It is so obvious that DT is advancing the agenda of a hostile power. It is the only explanation

Given the members with actual national security experience that were passed over these appointments would seem to be a trade for something down the line. Wonder what?

Why y'all surprised? This is what CINO's do these days - kowtow to a man who is the very essence of what Jesus spoke out against. Johnson - all those folks - aren't Christians; they are disgusting hypocrites. Makes me as spittin' mad as Yosemite Sam!

Great point. Or trump telling big oil to give him a billion dollars for favorable potus support and there are so many examples. I remember the constant rallying cry of how Obama wanted to destroy the country (Whatever that meant). But if maga gets into power there is a common fear they will attempt to cripple our democracy. Just look at the house maga gop or Texas Repub platform. The hypocrisy is lost on maga.

The fact they are so totally lost is proof it’s a cult and they’ve guzzled the koolaid.

I guess Diaper Don ran out of top secrets to sell, and had to get a new source.

President Trump, I am loyal to MAGA and will always be. Please forgive my wayward friends in this thread. They will see the light in time. Please spare them your wrath, Mr. President.

    Sounds like a cult.

I'm loyal to my own beliefs and right now they align to the Democrats, but I'm not loyal to Biden or the Democrats.

Spoken like a true acolyte of the defeated indicted and now convicted former president. A prime example of how membership in a cult destroys one's ability to think independently.
