1 game a sophomore in high school played against a far superior opponent is likely a very, very, very minor consideration to a college coach.

One of the 5 greatest QBs to wear a Gator uniform and a Heisman finalist was a backup QB all thru HS. This kid is finishing his second year of HS. I wouldn’t draw any conclusions based on a spring practice game against upper classmen

Your desire to down play his performance against Lakeland as a Soph, is humorous. Since the game is just 2 1/2 months away from him begining his junior year. Mind you this is a kid that took over the starting role of QB for Jesuit as a freshman, knocking the previous year's starter from that role.....( the same kid that had led Jesuit to a state title the year before) and thus has had 2 years experience in the starting role for Jesuit. His 2 years of cumlitive stats as well as with the Spring game against Lakelend, show me a kid with barely average stats when he's faced better competition. The spring game against Lakeland, (a defense that was no where near the same personnel as the one from its state title team of last season).....saw him not even capable of leading his team a single score until Lakeland starting substituting freely.

My point was simply this, I dont believe he'll stick by 2026 and I believe Trace Johnson at Buchholz HS..( who led Buchholz as a Soph within a single point of beating Lakeland in the Semi' and to the state title game), is someone everyone should be aware of as I believe by the time the 2026 class starts really getting notice will be the better recruit.

I am going to disagree with you. Good coaches show significant improvement year two or three. Harbaugh had a few four loss seasons but won 10 or more often. Most of our struggles so far have been coaching related. With precision coaching we win 7+ last season. I hope the overwhelming majority of us believe a winning season is the minimum we should expect.

All of that will sort itself out with time. Billy is not going to not recruit a super star QB in our own backyard because he took a verbal. Will Griffin is legit and is still learning and growing, and he is being ranked and recruited based on talent and potential, like all recruits. It's all about who can continue to develop and grow and who is not. Who knows we may sign them both and see who the better man is.

Remember, Tom Brady did not even start most of his senior season at college and still became one of the greatest QB's of all time. Some develop late.

So we're talking about a spring game with all new personnel against a perennial powerhouse as determinative of whether he will be able to become a player 4 years from now versus aa local kid. Brilliant.

I’ve always thought the real cheating was done in college as the nfl has a system in place that’s hard to circumvent to gain any advantage whatsoever unless your fixing games outright.

I don’t think their coach sucks. They still have the machine rolling.

Changing the air pressure in the balls, a lot different than handpick your draft before everybody else gets to have any players

Agreed, but they had a ton of turnover on their roster as well as staff. This coach has proven he can take a bunch of new guys and mold a really good team, but I still think the best time to get them is the next year or so.

They may have some chinks this year and we’re going to see pretty soon. But the main thing I think is, he is molding a highly talented team into a functioning team not a bunch of crap that our coach was given.

Of course you are, if your intent is to completely ignore the full body of his work when he has faced above average competition the last 2 full seasons he has been a starting QB. (You seem intent on ignoring his regular season play and playoff results when he has faced the like of Columbus, STA Armwood etc....) The spring contest against Lakeland heading into his junior year, was mentioned as only a means to show he still doesn't seem to perform all that well against better competition.

Jesuit isn't some football team of the week sisters, in the last 3 years they have won a state title knocking off Miami Northwestern in playoffs before beating Pine Forest for the title. 2 years ago they played to the semis before losing to STA (the eventual state camp), then last year lost in the region final to Tampa Gaither hs. There is a reason they played Lakeland in a spring contest......Jesuit as a program plays big boy football in the state of Florida.

Two positions I trust the staff- QB/RB. Lets see how he does. Agree with every poster who realizes the guy is young. We apparently gave a WR the green light to decommit, which I was ... not happy about... so I trust the staff to recruit over young Will Griffin if they decide it's necessary. Not to mention, a lot can happen between now and WG's signing.

I don't know much about the kid but I will say I certainly don't like it when people badmouth a new recruit. Its just a trash move, regardless of the 'reasons' for it.

The way many in this group treated Graham Mertz when he first signed with us was deplorable
