I wonder if Golden wishes he slow played the portal a bit more than he did with these recent additions like Wells, Richmond, and Omier. I know Wells fits what we still want but not sure we have the funds for him now. Omier would be better than any big we picked up in the portal.
Played for Kyle Smith and with Chinyelu. Sounds like a decent defender and offensive rebounder. Elite shooter with size and range, plus a capable handle. How much will he demand? Can you play him any at the four, or will he split minutes with Richard?
I know we have a lot of "Pullin addiction" and think finding one of those is paramount (sort of), I think this is the kind of player we would go after with what we already have invested in. And then, besides finding another Rishwain type, we will be done.
I don't know the portal rules at all, but this sure sounds fishy. Already negotiating with some program without declaring? Even if it's not against the rules, it's pretty slimy.
this is not uncommon. When a recruit does enter the portal they have the option of selecting do not contact. Martin did it. The reason players do it is because their agent has already been contacting schools behind the scenes and has narrowed down the list of where the player might want to go before even entering portal. Happens all the time.
It's a perfectly reasonable ask from the player's perspective. Guys that know they will be in high demand would be inundated with calls and texts from schools they have no interest in. This news doesn't mean this guy is already committed somewhere (although he may be) but he may only have a few schools he is going to consider and doesn't want to take the time to be in contact with dozens of suitors.
It will be pretty hard to sell playing time to another big when you already have four on board. Ideally, we get a combo forward who can pitch in minutes at the 4 as needed.
That usually means they are already headed somewhere due to closed door conversations (or what used to be called tampering, haha).
