Surprised this hasn’t been posted. One of our Great Wall. Had the pleasure of watching him play. Carter's Corner: Remembering Jeff Zimmerman, a Member of the "Great Wall of Florida" Offensive Line - Florida Gators
I just read that article yesterday and wondered... I saw that someone had posed that question earlier in the week but never saw the link/story until yesterday... So sad to hear... gone way too young. R.I.P., Jeff Zimmerman.
Wandered in to Snuffy’s (long gone) way back when and had ended up having a couple of beers with him Ker and some other dude I can’t remember. Good times. RIP
A brick has fallen from the Great Wall. It was a special O line. G-d Speed. If you want to help out at the gofundme page: Jeff Zimmerman, organized by Brian Zimmerman
Got to watch him play in the 1st round of the FHSAA playoffs against Manatee HS in 1981 at Evans HS, Jamie Dukes was also on that Evans OL that year. I want to say Evans won the game 14-13 and the next week Evans traveled to Dunedin HS. Dunedin had another big O linemen John Inota (sp?) Dukes and Inota went onto play at FSU. Was a great year for OL in Florida HS football that year!
My sister went to Evans at the same time as Zimmerman (and Dukes), so the family made it to most home games those couple of years. My 10 year old self hung out in the south end zone next to Principal Pitts, knowing my favorite Trojan would walk in that direction at the end of a game. Jeff seem surprised that I asked him for an autograph, but he was already a Pine Hills celebrity, especially for an aspiring pee wee offensive lineman. I still have that autograph and am very saddened by this news of his passing. RIP JZ!
