Yeah, there are a lot of cringe moments in that movie, and other comedies from that era - Airplane! I'm looking at you
When my friend's daughter graduated from little Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Gary Farmer was the speaker.
Agree. When Gandolfini appears I thought “oh there’s Tony S”, but then quickly only saw his character the rest of the movie. He was a good actor. But he was looking rough - his last movie.
This is an old one (2017) but I can really recommend “Godless” on Netflix. Relax @tilly not a slam on Christianity. It’s a seven part Western that features Jeff Daniels as the big bad. Excellent acting, pastoral views of New Mexico territory, lots of violence, a few twists on the theme and a great score that is probably better because I watched a good part of it stoned…
My wife and I do romcoms too and have found a few winners maybe off the beaten path. If you haven’t seen any of these, they might be worth a look: Rye lane Baby done 7 Days Castaway on the moon Licorice Pizza A guide to dating at the end of the world The Unicorn Not suitable for children Everybody loves somebody The breaker uppers
dang. I like a romcom. Have only heard of a few of those. I could prob list a few off the beaten track too. But, I'll just throw out 2 for now with the caveat that Parker Posey + Marisa Tomei are prob my fav romcomers ever. 1. Broken English 2. Happy Accidents bonus pick - Elsewhere - not good reviews, honestly not a great movie, but loved seeing that Parker can still deliver her inimitable blend of strength & vulnerability edit. 1 more - Safety not Guaranteed
Ooh I like Posey and Tomei as well and actually haven’t seen either of these. And I give a second nod for Safety Not Guaranteed. Very good. And if we are doing mumblecore, I’ll add Drinking Buddies. Also, a few of my list are from Australia / New Zealand, so as a fellow fan of Colin from Accounts, you might connect with them.
A couple of good foreign films: Nowhere in Africa - Jewish family flees to Africa as Hitler rises to power (German) Excellent Jack Strong - awesome Cold war era spy film based on a true story (Polish)
I watched Poor Things. The acting was unsurprisingly great and the ending was fun but not sure I understand the hype overall.
