He’s doing better than I expected, but it’s getting difficult to listen to. Shouting occasionally to emphasize can be effective when used sparingly. Shouting constantly for approaching an hour and a half kind of drags - you’ve gotta have some variety in your speech patterns.
A lot was to show he’s still in the game. He should have ran in place for 5 seconds and say “let’s see the other guy do that”.
Will be interested to read the print out of that speech - my impression from listening is that much of it came across far, far more like a campaign speech than a State of the Union address. I don’t think he hit the typical buzzwords of “Mister Speaker, the state of the union is strong,” and there was a whole, whole lot more talking directly about Trump, what former presidents have done, and directly trying to cast himself as being argumentative with Republicans than I recall from any SOTU. The “four more years” chant obviously didn’t help it seem any less like a stump speech.
I missed the “union is strong” piece but maybe it isn’t that strong? It was a very campaign speech feeling. Not a typical unity SOTU.
Yep, he didn't say that - intentional? Also, did not end with the traditional "And God bless the United States of America" It was "And God protect our troops"
