Everybody was screaming for UF to build an army like Bama and UGA...and that's exactly what we (and all the other big programs) have done

Now the same people who constantly complained we weren’t doing that, constantly complain about bloated staffs and stupid titles. They also complain that all the hires weren’t good enough, then throw fits when the same people leave to go to other teams.

I think organizational success is more complicated than that. Bidness consultants freq. make the mistake of observing things that work in 1 firm & recommending them to other firms. That frequently leads to very poor results b/c observing something that works & understanding why it works are VERY different. I liken it to a 3 legged stool for simplicity. The 3 legs being the allocation of responsibilities, the incentive scheme(s) (formal & informal) in place & the performance measurement system/feedback mechanism. those things need to be complementary with 1 another & if you change 1, chances are you'll need to change the other 2 for the best results.

Seems any fool can count (observe an army). There is more to it, IMO.

Well yes, of course there is more to it than that (just hiring people/copying successful programs). But hiring a lot of people and emulating success isn't really a cause to wonder about "overlapping responsibilities and watering down of personal accountability" either. Reality is, UF is still leaner than many big programs, one could also wonder if lack of bodies is a problem. Short of being right there in the middle of of it, none of us can truly answer with absolute certainty how the staff dynamics play out.
But my original point remains. Fans lost their minds for years over UF having lower staffing numbers, and now there is irony that fans complain UF has a robust support staff. Equally ironic, there is a lengthy thread over the loss of Joe Hamilton and the impending doom that may wreak....a young man with precious little experience whose entire resume is off field support working for Napier( for the record I like Hamilton a lot). There just appears to be a tendency to find the negative side of every scenario.

    The problem isn’t the size.

    It’s having 3 OCs

It’s having a DC who isn’t the DC because now there is an executive head defensive coach. Did you hear the podcast with the new guy? He is as confused as all of us

    0 ST

Its keeping your S&C guy around and turning him into a motivational speaker

If he had the standard on field positions and a bunch of analysts nobody would care. Enos is a good example of the typical. Yeah he has failed but he’s fine for an analyst spot

When you hear Napier and those close to him talk about the way they structure game planning… these moves make more sense. More than any other program I’ve ever heard… each coach and analyst is responsible for game planning sets of plays during the week, depending on the situation in the game. With some being responsible for 3rd and 1-4, some fir 1st down on our side of the field, some on 2nd and long on their side of the field etc etc… they then have to defend their calls based on matchups and mismatches. That’s then baked into a cake …(that tastes like 27 points a game… kidding kidding )
Yes, Napier is calling the game but he’s essentially reading a book everyone wrote. On one hand, it could be paralysis through analysis which we’ve seen at times … or 2 players with the same jersey…
On the other hand, if done right… it forces everyone to be involved and pulling the rope the same way rather than have 2-3 coaches not pulling their weight or bring on different pages… which is what we prolly saw with Raymond on D last year

That's you getting caught up in titles. LOTS of schools have Co coordinators these days, its just the way to keep quality guys on staff and happy. Sale is titled OC to get him money commensurate with his experience and lure from nfl. Russ has been given more responsibility, more money he has earned and also to keep him here as was getting interest from other gigs. Seems logical and smart to me
Roberts is a fabulous veteran mentor for a really young but promising DC, they have worked together before so makes perfect sense to me. Imo Roberts grasped the role well.
I could care less if tbe special teams guy is an official onfield coach or not....and I love the resume if the guy they brought in this offseason. Zero problem with any of those structures or "titles"
