Both sides of the ball affect scoring just the same. It’s a seven point swing for a td either way. Offense affects it more because you can simply outscore the other team. Holding em to less than 20 every week makes it so much easier

Is there another parallel example of a school going from their worst offenses in history to their worst defenses just a few years later like we have? I don't think the value of offense vs defense means much when we are dealing with extremes like we have under Champ/Mac on offense and Mullen/Napier on defense.

As we have seen in all sports. A great defense is always consistent but a great offense is not. Also, the offense as to practice against that defense ever day and in a lot of cases will inspire the whole team to play at a higher level.

I loved watching great defenses play it was so fun to watch, but all the rule changes have made it less entertaining. It was so exciting watching Reggie F'n Nelson own the middle of the field and no wide receiver would dare catch something over the middle or pay the price. Brandon Spike destroying running backs or our defensive ends putting the fear of God in the opposing quarterback.

How great was SOS in recruiting when we won all those SEC championships? Were there any other teams we played cough cough uga who had more talent? Do you not think bama at the time we beat them had more talent? I suspect if you dug far enough during the SOS years and even UM years we were underdogs quite a few times.

The biggest equalizer is an innovative offensive. Deboer will win at Bama because of that in addition to the talent we get. Uga is winning because they are good on O. If Napier gets it figured out on O we will win.

But your are right we definitely are lacking a lot of talent, which to me is mind boggling at the University of Florida.

That would be the article I linked in my reply that he didn't look at.

This sort of thinking was addressed in the article. UF's offense performing like LSU last year (best in CFB) and the same D would have us at 68% win expectancy. If the O stays the same and the D goes up 45 spots, it is 56% win expectancy. While I wouldn't say you are wrong, the benefit is still far greater to improve the offence to elite.

Exactly right, if either side is in the extreme, movement in the middle by other side of the ball is significantly less impactful. LSU is a great example last year. Their scoring D was basically the same as ours, but their offense was best in the country. That resulted in 10-3 for them and 5-7 for us.

Perhaps. However, Michigan's Natty this past year was based on a superb defense, combined with a good offense.

While I agree that UGA is "good" on offense, they are great on defense. I think you discount how important a great defense is to winning championships.

Whether Deboer wins big at Bama remains to be seen. A ton of gump talent just hit the portal. My gut says he is going to struggle in the SEC.

I disagree. We haven’t played great defense in years ! A couple Meyer and Mushchamp defenses but that’s about it

Actually the ones do not go at each other at practice ( maybe a couple times during fall camp)
Secondly college programs don’t hit anymore during season at practice. You probably knew that though

I don’t think we played UM a lot during Orr’s time . However we were underdog vs FSU quite a lot. We were favored in most of the Bama games

They were t inferior at all. Both sides of line of scrimmage were very talented

LOL, my bad UM = Urban Myer, I think there were a few times under him where we beat a team that that was more talented than us. I think perhaps bama and OSU may have been more talented. But my point was UM was an amazing HC in college football. One of very few who won NC's at two different schools.

They were definitely inferior to other teams. They weren’t top 5 talented. They were old so that’s the equalizer. Quite a few teams will have more NFL players

I’ll bet the los of Michigan is about to show up in the draft. They weren’t top 3 classes every year but they have plenty of upper claasmen from top 300 ranking..
