Baseball vs. St. John's, Sat 2/17, 10:00 am - CANCELLED

Even if they don't play, I hope we see a lineup any way for an idea if Sully is making any changes. I can't imagine this game gets played but I'll check it in the morning and go from there. Wishing for the best.

 

Isn't this about the same as the umpire we had last night??? In or out, take your choice. HA good one Gal!

 

Been raining for hours in area I’m in ( 2 miles from ball park). Not hard but steady.

Could play in this easily but I’m sure it’ll only pick up later.

 

I never liked losing, and after having to wear 18-4 for 7+ months, it sucks to give up 9 runs to St.John's. I guess we cut it in half so I should be happy with progress.

Now no 3rd game so no chance at a series win so we should tumble down the rankings which is probably just what is needed.

 

A pity, we can't get right back out there today and tomorrow and flush the poor performance from last night. Walking 8 with 1 HBP and giving up 9 runs is not a good way to start against a team like St John's. And neither is scratching out only 5 runs and being shut out over the last four innings by their Pen. As noted, Fisher was not his usual cool, calm and collected self on the mound and may have been affected by a combination of being "the Man" and Opening Night jitters. With the bats-- I kept waiting for the big inning that would turn things around for us but never happened. I was a bit puzzled by the sac bunt from Thomas wth two on and no outs (I think in the 4th inning)... Thomas has been swinging a hot bat lately and in that situation it seemed odd to play small ball when a big inning was (possibly) brewing.

 

Look for the game tomorrow to be cancelled also. It is showing 80+% rain from early morning until after 5pm when it barely drops to 70%. So our opening weekend will most likely consist of being 0-1 with 2 rainouts.

 

Could have played this one today again very near to the stadium and has barely been sprinkling for the last two hours. Not sure who canceled this one, but they missed it on this call

 

Should have never canceled today’s game. The weather is fine. Again, very close to the stadium and not even using windshield wipers easily would’ve got five innings in today. If not a full game.

and, there’s no way they play a game tomorrow if they’re going to cancel because of the Possibility of light rain today.

I’m sure Sully Is hopping mad at this cancellation quite sure the players are too, as that’s the best thing about baseball. There’s always another game or usually.

 

It's one thing to bunt for a run or two with a bat like Kurland or Cags on deck but its not good strategy when Guy is on deck. Probably would have been better to let Thomas swing and then have Guy bunt if Thomas gets on. At least Guy has a chance to out race the throw if he gets down a good bunt. Credit to Thomas for doing his job.

 

A real big-time move would be to come back out and say we’ve reassessed the situation and are going to try to get a game in and start at noon. By that time I’m sure it could be too late but this rain we’ve had since about 7 AM has not been enough to ever stop a game.

 

Please Please let Peterson get a chance to pitch before the weekend is done... Please dear God!

 

I think the players could use a day off.....rest the bats and pitching arms, for sure.....

 

I'm about four miles NW of the ballpark and no rain here for the past 2 hours or so and radar looks mostly clear for another 90 minutes... Could have played after all but someone had to make the call early for team preps, etc.

Going on 3-4 hours w barely a drop. The day has actually gotten better and better as it has warmed up a little bit and even the sprinkle stopped around 10. Could’ve got a game in today. Had we started at 10 o’clock Swing snd a miss on the cancellation

 

Isn’t it up to home team when to play and then the umps after the game starts have discretion to call it. IDK could be wrong.

Ran into several up here for the game and they were shocked we canceled.
