Cool, story, Danielle Collins is actually working toward her masters at UF. Q&A with Danielle Collins - University of Florida Advancement
Give it up to Roland for the very late addition to the roster. UF Women's tennis is going to be very fun to watch this season. Malwina Rowinska is the Newest Addition to Florida Tennis - Florida Gators
She signed last Spring. Two years running that arguably Roland has brought in the top freshman recruit in the country. https://x.com/alligatorSports/status/1708851833433628810?s=20
Not sure what to make of them yet. Ranked 8th, 3-0. Struggled over the weekend more than expected at home though. 4-2 against FIU, and then needed a second set tiebreak win and a third set win in the deciding match to beat San Diego 4-3. San Diego did get 2 points off of both Stanford and A&M though in San Diego.
Lineup/ladder has been all over the place over the weekend...De Oliviera waxed playing #1 yesterday and not even in the lineup today. I guess he is playing with things early. Dahlstrom struggled yesterday and was down early today and appears to have defaulted. After Briggs clinched the final match someone was out there on crutches so I'm guessing Sara. Doubles have been spotty, Dudney has been playing way down in the lineup, winning but it's odd for her to be that low. Just hard to tell what they really have Men got waxed both days vs quality opponents....playing freshmen at 1,2 and 3. They actually all performed relatively well. Nate split at 4, Nirundorn was awful both days at 5, and my biggest disappoitment was grad transfer from FGCU getting killed at 6. I thought he would be a solid help in the middle, based on this weekend not sure he even stays in the lineup.....odd after a productive career pre UF
FIU women got waxed 7-0 by #21 Miami on 1/18. I suspect that UF may not have been as up for the FIU match as they should have been. FIU women beat Wake Forest 4-2 the day after the loss to UF and Wake Forest made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament last year.
Side note, Auburn fired their womens coach this weekend, after they made ITAs. Something is afoot there.
Yeah, after Coach T lauded FIU after the match I went and looked at their performance and saw the Miami match result and scratched my head. Really not sure what UF has with the men or the women at this point. Women...Lopez and Rowinska look like freshemn at this point, both losing at 5 and 6 yesterday. Sara is hurt, Gailis looks solid in the middle of the lineup, Briggs is a bulldog but I prefer her at 2/3 and not 1, Dudney is similar to Briggs. Emily had the great fall, scratched out a win at 1 vs Baylor, gets demolished vs FIU (6-0 second set) then doesn't play yesterday. Is she hurt too? Men....thank goodness Ganesan arrived as a midterm freshman, undefeated in the 3 slot. Freshmen Jin and Kim taking some lumps at 1 and 2 but will improve I'm sure. Nate continues into his 3rd season of who knows what we will get every match. Disappointment that Nirundorn didn't win a set this weekend, thought a year of experience would make him a very good option at 5. Massive disappointment that Johnson has lost 3 in a row at 6. This is a 3 time ASUN player of the year, a guy ranked as high as 65 nationally. How is he struggling this badly at 6? Baffling
Just a guess on my part, but Johnson may be more focused on his academics at UF than he was at FGCU. In other words, his commitment to tennis at UF is different and so are his results on the court.
First of all I have taken more of an interest in ladies tennis, now that Jeremy Bayon, someone I coaches with a few years ago at UF became the ladies assistant coach. De Oliviera from my observation is dealing with some sort of arm problem. I was in attendance at the ladies match Sunday afternoon and De Oliviera had braces on her arm. I am sure she will be back in the lineup pronto when healthy. JanMagnus Johnson did not play many offseason tournaments this past summer and is just not in match shape yet. I believe he will be much improved as we get deeper into the schedule, but as of late he is not playing like the competitor I saw in the fall. This is a very young team who was on the road for the first time last weekend in North Carolina. Expect some up and downs from this group throughout the season. However, I do think we need more from the bottom three in our lineup if we are to make any noise at all this season.
Thanks coach....could you tell if Dahlstrom injury was serious. Need her and her experience come SEC time. Gonna have to get Nate, Nirundorn and Johnson going....doubles will probably take a while to gel and ou just can't count on 2-3 wins from 3 rookies at the top.
I was not watching her court until I saw it was empty and figures she had injured herself. I do not know about her injury.
