I have all calls and texts from unknown numbers instantly blocked. Well calls from unknown numbers go straight to voice mail. Now that my phone transcribes though it takes moments to know if it’s a legitimate call.
Confidence scam: They try to convince you to voluntarily give them money by gaining your trust that they are a legit person in need or love interest, etc. Its more of a "relationship" type of scam. Its a long con. Phishing: Get you to involuntarily give your personal info/password by tricking you into following a link or impersonating a legitimate entity like a bank.
I, too, enjoy messing with them. I get on FB mostly for the groups. I follow a few Jeep groups and they are littered with scammers using fake profiles or compromised accounts. They push a ton of scam/sales links.
nope, millions still being scammed by the great orange con man who will go down in history as the greatest flim flam artist ever.
the old Bob and Tom guys were the best at that. life insurance telemarketer, check, pretend to be person contemplating suicide, carpet cleaner, check, got a big pool of blood but need to know this is confidential...timeshares, got any in a non-extradition country?
A thread that had absolutely zero to do with politics and this is here. I swear it’s almost like a disease for some people.
My wife Googled Apple support and the first listing was a scammer that wanted access to her iPhone and Venmo account. They are everywhere.
A huge tip that you are getting scammed is that if you are buying something and they ask that you use Friends and Family, like what's offered with PayPal. Using Friends and Family option on various platforms makes it extremely difficult to dispute the charges and get refunded. That's why they request that payment method.
Well dang. I didn’t think of that. She’s in the past mentioned hiring a Pool Boy if I kick off before her. That was before we moved and had a pool. I will be vigilant from now on.
I got someone from LinkedIn trying to do the same through InMail. She was a member from the UA Alumni Association and wanted to know my phone number. I ended up reporting her account to LI. Get the text scams about once a month too. After a few texts, I tell them I want to do a knock-knock joke. When they ask, "Who's there," I respond, "You are." "You are who?" Then I respond, "You are blocked...Bye bye." At least the calls to buy my house have slowed down a bit. I usually have fun with them too. They ask me if my house is for sale and I will tell them, "$5 million in cash. Not a cash offer, but actual cash, in a briefcase, like in the movies!" Or, "$10 million cash. I want to swim in the money like Scrooge McDuck!"
Scammers pay for ad preference on Google search. Not sure why they are allowed to do this but people tend to click the first links that show up on a search which are typically ads as indicated by a small logo that many don't understand. I highly suggest searching you tube for scam baiting channels. Some are long and elaborate while others just cut to the chase. Great entertainment value and educational as well. They let the scammers take over their computers and then reverse hack the scammers computer. In some cases they delete scammer files and upload viruses to the scam centers. It also exposes how depraved these people are as they scam the elderly and infirmed with no remorse.
Alternatively I would not be surprised if my reputation has finally reached 25 year old hotties in China. It was only a matter of time.
These scumbags don't wait until you're Medicare eligible. They just carpet bomb areas and prey on elderly. They tailor their scams to localities as I recently received a local area code called claiming to be someone from my city. I asked where they were located and they couldn't pronounce a local road and just laughed and hung up.
