DJ Lagway, the Florida Gators’ 5-star quarterback signee from Willis (Texas), has been named the Gatorade National Player of the Year — one of the most prestigious honors in high school sports. Lagway, an Under Armour All-American, passed for 4,631 yards, 58 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while completing 72.1 percent of his attempts in 2023. He added 975 rushing yards as his team went 12-1. Lagway is the fourth Florida signee to win the award. The others are running back Emmitt Smith (1986-87), quarterback Brock Berlin (1999-2000) and quarterback John Brantley (2006-07). Glad we've got him. Now break a leg...oh wait.
DJ, hope you’re on campus already, and beginning your years as a Gator. You made a great choice. Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!
Need to find a screenshot of the Georgia guy from On3 who claimed lagway could very well be a 2 star by the end of his senior season and make a meme
We are not only getting a terrific player but a team leader and high character person. I think this young man will work his tail off to make our team better. And CBN has worked HIS tail off to surround him with the players he needs to accomplish that.
Crazy how we had two players of the year at QB, and there were other guys on the team who turned out to be better than them (i.e. Newton/Brantley & Grossman/Berlin).
With Emmitt Smith on hand, Willis' D.J. Lagway wins Gatorade National Player of Year award Good article
View attachment 168805 Found it. Not sure I'm allowed to post a screenshot of it from another forum though.. JC Shurburtt is the staffer that made the 2 star remark...
Could UF at least afford a pressure washer and get all that black chit off the concrete there before shooting that picture?! Geeezz
