Major cities on the east coast, from Miami to Boston, are experiencing subsidence in addition to seal level rise from global warming. Some cities are sinking as much as 1" every five years. The subsidence can be worse than the average rate in small areas. JFK airport has some areas that are sinking three times faster than the average.

Concerning satellite observations show major cities on US East Coast are sinking

Sea levels are currently rising at a rate of 1" every 6 years. So over 30 years, the land and the sea could be 11" closer in elevation than they are today. It does not sound like much, until a hurricane brings a storm surge with it and floods your house (if you live in a coastal area).

Another good reason why I sold my beach condo last April and moved inland. That and I wanted to sell while the condo market was hot.
