I have no idea how much money it will take, but we haven't had a real effective effort at trying as of yet. Trump wanting to build the wall, I think is a step in the right direction but he didn't follow through on that. Is the wall alone going to stop illegals? No! But it has some positives effects on slowing the masses from coming, otherwise Biden wouldn't have just approved building portions of the wall. But a few miles here and there is not effective. I don't want to stop immigration as much as I want to slow it down and get a handle on who is coming in and be able to have asylum hearings in days to weeks not years. Only around 20% actually receive asylum, so the 10,000 a day we are processing, then housing and feeding, only about 2500 will actually be granted asylum. If that is the case, cities like NYC and Chicago crying about millions of dollars needed to house and feed them would only be 25% of the number needed now.

Who said policy change with ICE? Is not the left wanting to eliminate or defund them? Is it not the left that created sanctuary cities that do not work with ICE?
I pulled the number from a google search and your actually shows way less spending on ICE.
And really ICE doesn't just round up illegals and deport them? Duh......

ICE has tripled its budget. CBP has quadrupled its budget in 20 years. Those are both massive increases in spending. And yet, it hasn't been "real effective."

We have built a ton of wall over the years. To no effect, apparently.

Or, another option, recognize that we have a massive labor shortage, and not put people through an expensive legal process when, in reality, they largely just want to work here.

WTF is the left? Are you counting anyone you heard in a crowd on a clip on twitter posted by a right wing nut? Is what you are considering left? How about you address the policy put forth by the guy running for president and supported pretty unanimously in the party by the elected members?

So can I deduce that you are for total open border? Do not stop anyone from anywhere for any reason coming in?

No, I am fine with running background checks and preventing people tied to violence either in the form of crime or political violence from entering. A task made much easier with a pathway for everybody else.

Yes some twitter posts!!! Copied from CNN, yep just a few fringes!!
    Senators
    Kirsten Gillibrand of New York

“I don’t think ICE today is working as intended,” Gillibrand said Thursday night on CNN’s “Cuomo PrimeTime.” “I believe that it has become a deportation force, and I think you should separate the criminal justice from the immigration issues.”

    Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Warren wrote, “The President’s deeply immoral actions have made it obvious that we need to rebuild our immigration system from top to bottom, starting by replacing ICE with something that reflects our values,” a line that mirrored her statements in a speech at a protest in Boston.
    House members
    Mark Pocan of Wisconsin

“From conducting raids at garden centers, and meatpacking plants, to breaking up families at churches and schools, ICE is tearing apart families and ripping the moral fabric of our nation,” he said in a statement.

    Pramila Jayapal of Washington

“We need to set up a commission that looks at the alternatives to ICE and really starts to understand how do we have these functions in a way that is accountable, transparent and humane,” Jayapal told The Hill.

    Earl Blumenauer of Oregon

“We should be prioritizing the protection of families and our borders in a humane and thoughtful way. People should be treated with compassion and respect. ICE is simply not doing that,” Blumenauer said in a statement. “Trump and his administration have made the agency so toxic that it’s time to abolish ICE, and start over.”

    Jim McGovern of Massachusetts

“We need to start a fresh conversation. If there are elements that work, we can maintain and strengthen those aspects. Otherwise, we need to thoroughly reevaluate and re-think immigration enforcement,” he said in a post to his website.

Rep. Nydia Velázquez of New York

“While eliminating ICE would be an important step, it alone is not enough to halt Donald Trump’s deportation machine,” she said in a statement. “This Administration is attacking immigrants on a multitude of fronts and we must resist on all of them. That includes reuniting and releasing families separated at the border, ending family detention and passing protections for Dreamers and TPS recipients.”

    Raul Grijalva of Arizona

    Adriano Espaillat of New York
    Others
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio

He told WNYC’s Brian Lehrer, “ICE’s time has come and gone.”

    Calling for changes to ICE
    Kamala Harris of California

“I think there’s no question that we’ve got to critically re-examine ICE and its role and the way that it is being administered and the work it is doing,” she told MSNBC. “And we need to probably think about starting from scratch.”

Ok, how do we make people actually come through check points at a rate we can handle, if we have no check points?

I didn't say we shouldn't have check points. I am fine with the existence of an Ellis Island-style immigration program with additional background checks.

Correct me if I wrong, but wasn't most of those immigrants coming in on boats and the boat had to land at Ellis Island? How do we accomplish that same thing on the southern border?

People would generally prefer to be here legally. There isn't really an advantage to illegal entry. Illegal entry happens because migrants want to come into the US, often due to the need for labor, but do not have a legal pathway by which to do it.

No more illegals can come to our sanctuary city. That's good stuff.

You may be right, but I disagree from the standpoint, that if they remain illegal, no one is really trying to catch them, they don't have to pay any taxes or have a bank account or anything else. There are definite disadvantages to be illegal. but I think it is naive to think all coming here to work would rather be legal.

Again, we have tripled ICE's budget (and quadrupled CBP's budget to try to stop them at the border). Seems like an odd thing to do if the agency isn't even trying to do their job. Illegal immigrants regularly pay taxes. Legal immigrants and even citizens avoid taxes often. And having a bank account is not a requirement of legal status (and is generally not a negative).

    DeLand
The buses are used to move bums from Daytona to DeLand whenever there is a special event. I don’t know the answer but cheapest transportation is abused all the time.

Just a reminder, applicants for asylum are not illegals. Virtually all of the immigrants sent to NYC by Abbott fall into that category (applicants for asylum). If they were actually illegals he would be violating federal law by transporting undocumented immigrants across state lines. Same applies to Ron DeSantis for his similar stunts. FYI:
    1907. Title 8, U.S.C. 1324(a) Offenses

Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a) defines several distinct offenses related to aliens. Subsection 1324(a)(1)(i)-(v) prohibits alien smuggling, domestic transportation of unauthorized aliens, concealing or harboring unauthorized aliens, encouraging or inducing unauthorized aliens to enter the United States, and engaging in a conspiracy or aiding and abetting any of the preceding acts. Subsection 1324(a)(2) prohibits bringing or attempting to bring unauthorized aliens to the United States in any manner whatsoever, even at a designated port of entry. Subsection 1324(a)(3).

Domestic Transporting -- Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(ii) makes it an offense for any person who -- knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, transports, or moves or attempts to transport or move such alien within the United States by means of transportation or otherwise, in furtherance of such violation of law.
