Not so sure if that is true. If people aren't watching the first time the games are aired, what makes you think they'll watch reruns of those games? Who's going to advertise bowls where no one watches?

 

Yes, but having the 3 year rule before eligible to use it would help young kids put in the work and see if they can get the time they desire before bailing for easier pastures. Help reduce roster turnover and still allow fans the ability to get to know the kids in the program etc. The new ruling until it gets heard at a higher level just makes college sports an absolute joke. Yearly unlimited transfers lol. Why bother.

 

Your 3 year rule never existed before so it will never be instituted now.

It's more likely that the NCAA will lose the antitrust lawsuit against them for violating the Sherman Act by limiting a player's ability to transfer multiple times.

 

Simple. Just like regular families who pay to send their kids to college they should fill out a financial disclosure form. If they make more than a certain amount of NIL money they just pay for college like the rest of us. You shouldn't have kids getting paid 1,000,000 and then not having to pay for their " education". You can't be rich and poor at the same time.

 

But the scholarship is based off of athletic abilities not financial situation.

 

You seem to not care about conferences all that much. One thing that keeps college athletes from getting an overlord commissioner is conferences. Screw all professional sports models... and every single avenue in which they will try to use to make college sports and student athletes obsolete.

Not all sports are equal and what works in one sport does not work in all sports... especially in college sports.

 

Scholarships aren’t just for the poor. Academically gifted kids are awarded scholarships too, even if they come from wealthy families.

 

You sure about that? I think the majority of players pick where they want to go based on their opportunity to get to the league. Once they get there and find out that they aren't as good as the other 5 stars that chose that school, they transfer to another school to play, not to get an education. If that were the case, UF would get more transfers not lose them. ETN is the example of this.

Yes but they don't also get million dollar NIL deals in addition to the scholarship. I've got one of those academically gifted kids so I am ultra familiar with the process and the intrusive disclosures that have to be filled out.

 

That was prior to NIL. With NIL athletic ability scholarships are redundant and not needed at least for football.

 

You really don't understand NIL. There is only a handful that are getting big money and that money is coming from deals being made with big brands. The majority of players are getting 5-25,000 for the season/semester. When you see a player getting a car, it's a lease for them to use.
Not every player is being handed million dollar deals.
There are roughly 11,000 plus football scholarships in FBS(85 x 131 schools)

The entire NIL budget for a good 60% of those schools is under a million dollars for the year.
I know for a fact that USF's entire NIL budget for all sports is 750,000 a year.

And if it's not coming out of your pocket why do you even care.

 

I understand NIL. I understand scholarships. I understand paying for college.

Athletic scholarships were originally intended to induce a talented player to play for a given school based on the value of a "free" education. Since the elite players don't value a "free" education and want to be paid instead for their own name image and likeness then that's a choice they can make. To offer a player who is being paid hundreds of thousands or even millions for their name image and likeness a scholarship is redundant and taking away from kids who do actually need it for its intended purpose. These players are always free to market their name image and likeness independent of any college or organized football game if they really want to understand exactly how the market values the talent they have to offer.

 

They’re allowed to, and always have been. They do also try to lure the top academic students with grant and research funding too.

 

As long as they’re being forced to go to school in order to remain eligible, they aren’t taking away their scholarships. This is a waste of time.

 

What you want it to be and what it is are two separate things.
Athletic scholarships are given for athletic skills by the university regardless of one's financial situation.

Your anger needs to be directed at someone else besides the players, they are just taking what is being offered ( as they should) You should be angry at the boosters and fans willingly giving their money to make NIL happen.
