I like this hire... Florida is expected to hire New York Giants director of strength and performance Craig Fitzgerald to lead its strength and conditioning department, sources informed Swamp247 on Sunday afternoon. Fitzgerald's hiring comes after Gators director of football strength and conditioning Mark Hocke was reassigned to focus on a "transition into the coaching element," according to head coach Billy Napier. With more than 25 years of coaching experience, Fitzgerald's various tenures across the collegiate and professional levels have largely been associated with great success. Fitzgerald notably worked with Florida legend Steve Spurrier at South Carolina from 2009-2011. https://247sports.com/college/flori...ngth-and-conditioning-coach-giants-223883524/
Could be! I think that Spurrier vividly remembers being booed by the supposedly friendly crowds and would like to help Billy out. I think they may call that friendly fire. Just like being bombed by your own Air Force or artillery.
Hopefully not too long. A good thing about this hire is that the Gators will have a lot of interior linemen (offensive and defense) next season that have at least two sessions of playing together. Continuity like this is a good factor in team building. Hopefully Fitzgerald can get these guys to compete in the weight room and as well as the conditioning. Hopefully we will see the O-linemen hit their blocks and maintain control (without holding). Also, we will see the D-linemen get that quick jump and shed/deflect the blocks on them. The above two results, will provide a big improvement for the Gator offense. Maybe will will see Mertz get enough time to get the passing game vertical and not as much sideways.
Would be great hire if it occurs. Wife is from NY snd has family there. Has been very careful with his moves in past. Turned down Bama while at TN. If coming to UF, has to be Spurrier connection.
