DL coaching search...Florida Planning to Hire Tulane's Gerald Chatman

"Coach Chatman is one of the top up and coming defensive line coaches in the country," former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said of Chatman last year. "He is extremely knowledgeable about all phases of defensive line play and is an excellent recruiter with outstanding character."

He has SEC and NFL experience.

 

Not a bad take. The point I make is, why the delay? For this kind of hire?

 

Just keep rooting for a coaching revolving door and expect a different result, then.

 

The door stops revolving when a coach is proven competent.

 

Seems like only yesterday that I was reading on this board that it would take a few years to put out the dumpster fire that was the current state of Gator football; and everyone seemed to agree that Napier needed to be given some time. Or maybe I dreamed all of that.

 

Yep, knew it was going to take awhile to dig out. Get pissed off because it’s taking awhile.

 

That talk was coming from the same crowd that doesn’t hold him accountable. We’ve had a lot more info since he was hired 2 years ago. You don’t ignore new information.

 

Why Tulane after all the other stops?

 

Obviously more goes into it than these two stats But for what it’s worth…

With what I saw this year that door should be revolving at light speed...was there a part of the team which looked competent?

Is it really that hard to figure out? We've heard some other names, they weren't a fit for whatever reason, and this is the guy we landed on as things have played out. Not sure why people continue to harp on this perceived "delay" anyway as it wouldn't have made any difference if the announcement had been two weeks sooner.

 

Blame it on the fans, the media etc.

Because they got hyped up about the process, the Saban tree, team of analysts and chose to be blinded to the obvious issues.

 

I am with you on this. I am also so freaking tired of hearing about “the process”. The problem is we (UAA) fell for this and said we’re all in. What they mistook process for is vision and leadership, and that’s what they should have been looking for. A pencil pusher can follow a process. Takes clear vision and leadership to inspire people to do impossible things.
