"Should"? Not for you to say.

I think it is more like chosing a bowl of soup with 4 scoops of crap in it or just one scoop. Either way, you are eating crap and I won't order either.

If the waiter still brings me one, I wont eat it and I will live my life just as I am now.

We are thinking about it. Just not choosing what YOU want me too.

Screw that. This is the same bully tactic the left used in 2020 to try to get more votes. I find many things in the progressive agenda to be against my values. Supporting them would be against my beliefs. Supporting Trump would also be against my beliefs.

I'll sit it out before I compromise my principles for either one.

By the way, if we end up with Trump thats on your party. If they cant put a candidate out there that can beat an abomination of a human being, that's on them. Deflecting blame to conservatives who dont even vote for Trump is lame.

Put a better candidate out there and you win in a landslide. But your progressive party is going yo give us the oldest, whitest, establishment candidate in American history. How 1850 of you.

Bullshit. It's on the people who voted for Trump. Probably a lot of your friends and family in that group.

He represents them, which tells us a lot about them

Biden made sense the first time around, not sure it does now

So vote for someone who you don't want to be president, or else? No thanks. I'm writing in again if need be.

Your past posts suggest this pleases you. Am I mistaken in that conclusion? If not, perhaps you will inform us why you prefer a narcisstic, obviously mentally ill man who has dictator inclinations, and who has already once imperiled democracy.

I just can't get my head around why any loyal American can support Trump.

You want the culture war wins without getting your hands dirty.

Again, this election is different, maybe one of the most consequential ever.

This is one philosophy, and I’d say it’s the most common, so you’re in good company. However, this same reasoning was employed by many who ended up voting for the other option as well.

Another way is to view our votes is not as means to other utilitarian ends, but instead as ends in themselves. Here, once we’ve cast a vote that we can proud of, we’ll always know we’ve done our job regardless of what anyone else does. I don’t expect you, or anyone really, to follow me down this path, but I don’t think that maintaining absolute standards should sound as crazy as it does either.

The context of an election matters. Let's say we have an election with 3 candidates. One candidate is going to help you if he wins, one candidate isn't going to do anything for you if he wins, and one candidate is going to have you and others like you shot you dead if he wins. The guy who is going to help you has no chance, he's polling at 2%. The other 2 are dead even at 49% each. Who do you vote for? I'd vote for the guy who isn't going to do anything for me but at least isn't going to have me killed.

Yes exactly. I am just suggesting that focusing on influencing the outcome isn’t the only valid philosophy to adopt, as the vote itself can be considered its own end.

Sure, you can stick to your high-minded principles and be dead or you can choose the second best option and be alive.

This is what I mean by this philosophy sounding crazy. Someone adopts a standard such as “I won’t vote for a candidate unless they X”, and they are going to die.

I don’t think this is the only way to view it. To employ my own dramatic analogy, imagine a group of bullies who tell you to beat up a little kid or else they will beat him and you up. Now, using your utilitarian calculus, the choice is clear. In option 2, the kid still gets beat up, so you should choose option 1, where that is the only harm. But something still feels wrong about option 1, right? You guys can do what you want, but I’m simply not helping.

Basically, I wouldn’t vote for Trump regardless of the alternatives. To me, he’s unacceptable, and he wouldn’t become acceptable if the Democrats found a way to nominate someone worse. I don’t think that’s such a crazy stance.

I guess I'll just control their vote going forward. Is that what you're suggesting?

Your party puts a crappy candidate out there against a crappy candidate. Control what you can control. Your voting for Biden encourages that practice. As does voting for Trump.

Some of us have had enough and wont enable the crappy process anymore.

Its funny how you guys seem to know what my intentions are, but are miles away...., What I want is to stop enabling the the two bully parties.

I want them to put strong viable leaders in front.

YOUR party preaches diversity and forward thinking and is putting out a creepy, dusty old white guy.

At leats some on the right have said enough is enough. Where are the lefties doing that?
