Florida is hiring Los Angeles Chargers’ assistant defensive back coach Will Harris to fill their secondary coach vacancy, Gator Country has learned from multiple sources. Harris joined the Chargers in 2023 after serving as the defensive coordinator/secondary coach at Georgia Southern University in 2022.

He might have contacts in South GA that will help with recruiting.

Probably leaving Chargers because he was Assistant backfield coach, and the backfield was a train wreck--kind of like another one. Dead end job; and like many excellent college coaches he may have just not like coaching in the pros.
Hopefully doubters will consider his most notable college experience at UW where he had a very highly ranked pass defense.
I see it as a positive hire.

What does "Yea unk"? mean? As in uncle? Or some slang word I'm not hip enough to know? Just curious if there is a relation with one of our previous defensive back coaches:

One year in the pros and I think he realized he prefers college football. He was a big timer success as DB coach at Washington. Hopefully, he can do the same in Gainesville.

He coached under Jimmy Lake(my wanted replacement) so maybe he brings the same qualities.

It just refers to an older male who might have been a role model or mentor. They were at San Jose State at the same time.

We can only speculate at this juncture. By the time this thread gets to 5 pages (or sooner) it should deteriorate considerably (standard GC pessimism) and he will be considered the worst hire in Gator coaching history. Just saying... HA!:D

I like it! And, maybe 'unc', will be the next line coach. Secret writing on the wall...

Wrap this puppy up and snag the kids that might be teetering.

    Go Gators.;)

Personally, I’m not impressed with his resume. Only time will tell if he’s another coaching dud. We’ve had more than our fair share of them the past decade from Head Coach to coordinators to position coaches.

What surprises me is that Napier and Stricklin may not realize how badly the Gator program is hemorrhaging under Napier’s watch. You can’t just hire coaches to fill empty spots……you absolutely have to attract top tier coaching talent, regardless of the cost.

I sure hope I'm missing something regarding this hire.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm sure he is a good coach and I am hoping he does wonders with our player development, but of all the DB coaches out there is he the best one? The best one we could get? The best one we could get in Napier's friend zone? If we as a program are not going to buy the best players then we better have elite coaches.
